I'll watch it tonight and let you know. The back cover says it is based on the memoirs of Augusten Burroughs, but is "a wickedly funny, brave and moving tale of surviving the most unusual childhood".

runsw/scissors-I watched the movie over the weekend. It was strange but it would have been really funny if it wasn't based on a true story. I felt so bad for him. The kid's life was such mess.

I started my 2 online summer classes Mon. My last day of work was last Thurs & it's pretty likely that I'm already free for the summer. Tues, I went on a nice day trip to the USS Midway & San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum, then dropped by Seaport Village. It was a nice day! :)

I suddenly have found myself in the most perplexing of situations (for me anyway). I'm not going into details as part of a thread, so you can PM me if you'd like. Let's just say when it rains, it pours.

My summer classes start at the end of June. I'm not looking forward the math class!

This morning my hubby got up early and got me some Dunkin Donut coffee before work. I went to leave for work and put the coffee on the roof of my car while I put some other stuff in my car. I forgot the coffee was on top of my car and backed a little bit out of my driveway before I remembered LOL Thank goodness it didn't spill!

Now that school is over I finally have the time to give my apartment the thorough cleaning it needs. The question is will I actually do it.

Some nut hacked into my email account and sent all of my contacts a link to what I'm sure is a virus. This is my professional email so it was sent to my former principal, co-workers/teachers, university supervisor, human resource people..
Thank goodness it was nothing sexual or violent in the email subject or link. I've removed everyone from my contact list and won't have one again unless it's just fam and friends.

When I had my small website, it got hacked years ago. And recently my entire computer was nearly wiped out a few months ago. I almost lost all of my pictures and family videos. My husband recovered those; we lost Photoshop and other programs, still thankful I didn't lose the family stuff.

I need to stay off the internet.

So I'm studying for one of my online classes. I'm skipping the gym today (I've been going 4-5 days/wk since mid-May & plan to all summer).

I think I'll get something yummy to eat later! There's a place called Flame Broiler that I want to try. There's no MSG, frying, trans fat, or skin on their chicken. :)

    How embarrassing.

I've been really sad about the oil spill. My husband and I were planning a vacation to the Gulf, and we're debating whether or not to go now. The oil has not yet reached our vacation spot, but I'm sure it will soon. I think we're probably going to go anyway. We were wanting to do some shopping, so maybe this could be a small way of continuing to support the business owners, who are no doubt suffering from people backing out of their vacation plans. Anyway, I'm wanting some costal decorations for my house. But first, I have to do some decluttering in my house!

I've been cleaning up in the yard, and I must have run into some HORRIBLE pollen or something. I am suffering from terrible allergies right now! I won't even drive myself anywhere, because I keep sneezing and blowing my nose..... it's like the sinus grossness just won't stop. I'm thinking about going to the doctor... this is literally becoming dehabilitating! (sp?)

Well, since I'm getting a new TV, hopefully THIS wk, I started clearing out my den yesterday. I'm on my 3rd garbage bag of trash, but they're only filled halfway since I don't want the bag to bust. I shredded a lot as well. Lots to donate to too!

Hubby and I are trying to find a house, but the market here is depressing. Literally. Everything that is nice is light years above our league, payment wise. Lots of foreclosures and crap places.

We found a house we like, but it is going to foreclosure auction soon. We can't track down the owner to arrange a deal before hand, since he seems to have vanished; bidding on the house is 100% cash in hand. :( We really like the place, even though it is going to need a lot of work.

It is trashed -- it was one of those situations that they took anything that they could and left. Junk everywhere, trash, cabinets ripped out, no appliances or sinks... it's a mess. But there is such potential, and it is in a nice place on a nice chunk of land.

I wish we had more money and could buy a place like this outright.

    Strange coicidence.

My mom has found a tentative buyer for her home of 50+ years. We worked all winter at clearing stuff out, but there's still all the stuff she uses day to day.

I just went to MLS to look at apartments/condos. She's very active in her church, and that's where all her friends are. So she wants to stay pretty local. I found about a dozen places she might want to consider-- some rentals, some for sale.

If she had a clue how to use her email, I would just send them. But instead I've printed them up; I think I'll try to get them into the mail tomorrow.

Getting a new TV makes me want to do a minor redecorating in this den. I cleared out one side of the rm. I want to remove this big leather chair I have that's barely been used & I'm planning to paint the wall that the TV is against.

    Hrs later... :D

I put the leather chair downstairs in the sunroom & I started looking for rugs, indoor plants, & paint swatches to paint one wall of the den.

Alice, you're missing out on some wonderful shows. TV isn't completely full of reality junk shows...yet. Do you like the Discovery, Discovery Science, National Geographic, History, Military channels (plus more) at all? They're interesting.

Oh, Brian and Peter are always on history and miitary channels.

Kira and Julia have discovered reruns of Full House and also love Zoey 101 and just about everything on the Disney Channel. Julia also loves all the Bridal stuff and all the real estate stuff.

And every so often, I find somethng I LOVE. The HBO seriew from years ago, From the Earth to the Moon, comes to mind.

But I'm the mommy. I have a full time job, a summer freelance job, 3 kids, a husband and a dog. I'm still making the rounds to doctors more often than I would like (Monday is a Mamogram at 1 and the dentist at 3.)

If I'm not on A to Z, I'm busy with other stuff.

Keeping myself occupied...since my child is an adult, summer break can be slightly depressing for me. I don't have much to do-and my friends are all working! I have been reading a lot-finished 3 books since summer vacation started (June 10th) and working on my online class. Told my hubby last night that once I am done with classwork -I will finish this summer-then I will look for parttime work during the summer to keep me busy. When I am bored-I think too much, and worry too much. Like now-worrying day and night about negotiations and whether there will be a strike or not. As if I have any control over that? I pray every day that He oversees their talks and keeps their minds open.
Am I the only teacher that goes through this?

Knitter, my kids are still young, so I'm not there yet. But I can see where you're coming from.

Part time work might do the trick, or maybe volunteer work.

When I was a SAHM I did work with the adoption agency. I was a "Greeter" at JFK. As infant Korean adoptees came in with their escorts, I met them at the gate, took the babies, then got them cleared through Customs & Immigration before bringing them out to meet their new families. I seldom left dry eyed, and many times there were strangers in the terminal with moist eyes as well. I'll be forever grateful for the opportunity to do this work for a few years.

In this economy, with so many budget cuts, lots of agencies are looking for volunteers. Why not explore and see what suits you?

Thanks, Alice. I always read your posts-you are like a friend! I am planning on finding some sort of work-I really like the idea of volunteer work. I have thought about a hospital. If I weren't a teacher, I think I would have liked to become a nurse. I would love to work with elderly too. Perhaps nursing homes have a volunteer program. You have got me thinking! I would love to read to an elderly person who cannot read due to medical reasons. Hmmm, I have a lot to check into! Thanks for the encouragement. :hugs:

Nope. I usually have tutoring lined up for the month of June, and that helps keep me focused. However, this year I didn't get a single child signed up, and I am rather bored. I have been reading a lot too (some books for classes next year, a couple novels of my own.) But like you, too much free time leaves me able time to fret and worry, it's just not about the same things.

    Frustrated. Completely.

Since I haven't gotten any phone calls so far from the many schools I applied...public and private, I have decided to do a digital portfolio/website and a hard copy portfolio with "lots and lots" of info. Took a lot of time and effort, but many principals might not ever see it.

I applied to 79 districts online through Teach in Alabama. 78 of these districts will require me to relocate.

I'm willing to relocate. Teach In Alabama requires an online and confidential evaluation form from your cooperating teacher and university supervisor. Done last year.

Along with having copies of my student teaching evaluations, 5 reference letters, certificate, HQ letter, transcripts and a bunch of other stuff.

The problem so far is that absolutely none of the 79 districts are even looking at the state site. I contacted a few by phone, and they said I will still have to fill out their paper applications, fully apply all over. Send in everything by mail to them. ok fine,

PLUS, print their evaluation forms and bother my busy cooperating, university supervisor and other teachers again, over and over for all of these districts. I student taught in 2008. How in the world can I get a fair evaluation from them?

Sorry. I cannot and will not continue with those particular districts. Never in my life have I heard of anything where you have to have so many evaluation forms. References are one thing. But it's really difficult and time consuming to keep asking others to fill out sooooooo many forms for you for all of these different districts. Ugh.

    I'm disgusted.

I will contact as many other districts as I can. But if they require me to have more evaluation forms then they will too be off my list.
I just vented to my husband and see he also doesn't know of any job that requires so many extra evaluation forms.

On the good side, I was approved for my top choice district last year so I will drop off my info to the schools tomorrow. Only 2 openings left. That will be close to a 2 hour drive.

I love pointless threads because I can be so random myself!

Let's see...my boyfriend opened a door VERY wide as far as we are concerned because he recently asked me what my dreams, aspirations and goals were for the future INCLUDING our relationship. Hope he's ready for the answer! lol

He's also going to be visiting me again in September!! I can't wait!!!

My daughter amazes me everyday. She reads CONSTANTLY (as much 'reading' as a 19mos. old can do) and can count to 10 in Spanish and English! I think her passion may be in music though as she will hear whatever song is playing and try to sing along with it including humming parts.
