    Hi kinderkids,
Teachers have to report 8/28 and kids come 8/29. 8/28 will be all day meetings so of course elem teachers are all in early. I enjoy working on my room, but every once in awhile there is a little resentment about all the unpaid hours.

cwp83- Thank you for asking! I keep on going because every day there is something to smile about. ( I have to look hard sometimes though)
My grandmother and I were like mother and daughter. She was an amazing wonderful person and to me she never really was an "old lady". She had a great sense of humour and a heart of gold. It's funny, how in my mind, I honestly beleived she would always be here.
Right before my grandmother passed, I lost a best friend to ovarian cancer. She was only 38 years old. Sometimes I find myself crying in the car, I must look like a total idiot to the other people driving, but it just hits me like a ton of bricks at strange times.

cwp873- Thank you for your words and suggestion. I had been seeing someone a few years back and was diagnosed with GAD/Depression and went on meds for a while. I ended up not liking the way they made me feel and took myself off them... not smart I know, these things are caused by a chemical imbalance and the meds will help balance it. I have since convinced myself that I can "talk" my way out of feeling that way, but agree that down time is the worst. I have noticed a lot of my old feelings coming back and it's getting harder to control them... I think I need to find a new doc.... thanks for the extra push I needed to go through with this!

OK, time for a change of focus....

Have I ever told you how much I LOVE summer????

My husband teaches and we have 3 kids- aged 3,6 and 8. Summer is time for us to kick back and really be a family. We bought an above ground pool over the winter, and I've spent most of the past 6 weeks in my lifeguard chair watching them play. We've barbecued countless nights. We've gotten to the beach once or twice at about 6 pm to walk the boardwalk, play in the sand and the playground and have ice cream. I've had time to sit and read with the kids without feeling like I have to watch the clock and get a zilllion other things done.

My house is a mess...muddy feet all over the kitchen floor more often than not (although I did mop it today!) But who cares? It can be clean when they get older.

We're going upstate to Lake George next month for a week. We'll swim and shop and visit Fort William Henry and watch the fireworks on Thursday night. We'll take a cruise on either the Mini Ha Ha or the Mohican. My husband will take millions of pictures, one of which will be framed and put up on the living room wall.

    Yup. I love summer!!!

Tomorrow we are taking a field trip to a children's museum and a park/zoo. The bus ride is about 45 minutes...90 degrees and storms expected! That will make for a very interesting day! The children's museum is awesome, filled with things for the kids to play with...the neatest thing is an enormous life-like display of a gas station(Kwik Trip,) and they even have little cars the kids can drive around(all inside.) There are 3 floors of exploration. It will be a fun day, but exhausting at the same time! Meanwhile, I am trying to plan our families weekend birthday party for our 2 year old grandson. There is so much to think about, it's a bit overwhelming!

Sure. My son is adopted (from Korea) he would LOVE to have an adoption buddy! (I think!) We celebrate his Gotcha Day every January 12 with the restaurant of his choice. He always chooses Japanese food, partly because he loves it, and partly because his sister HATES it:rolleyes:

You know, I never think of going there! I bet all three kids would love it, even Julia who eats nothing that isn't a chicken nugget!

And that's true, I forgot about your past teaching experience. Wanna come play nanny while I relax by the pool with a glass of wine? (OK, not at 10 am. But 5-ish would work:D )

I saw the move Miami Vice today. It was disappointing...not nearly as great as they make it sound. Throughout most of it, the key characters are on their cell phones making deals & planning things. There were only 1 or 2 not so good action scenes in teh whole movie, what a letdown!

This was the first cooler night in a while, so I walked my Boston Terrier tonight.

I start my first ever teaching job as a resource specialist in a month, so I browsed through the bookstore & got a book that I hope really helps. I need all the help I can get!

We are having a birthday party today for our grandson. He is two now. We got him a riding John Deere tractor and we are just plain giddy waiting for him to arrive!!!!!! It is going to be nearly 100 degrees this weekend, so there will be plenty of water play in the back yard!
Ms. I, I always loved walking our dog. I miss that, but now we have 3 cats(more independent when we go away!) They are in and out cats, so when we leave they have to stay in the house with their toys and air conditioning, 3 litter pans and cat nip...bowls heaped with dry food and fresh water daily. Yea, they have it rough!

AARRGHH! Help me someone...Two weeks 'til my brother's wedding, and the return cards are coming in SO slowly!! The ones that have come are making the seating arrangements impossible! Where do you put a 17 year old who only knows her mother and aunts?! I HATE seating arrangements...on the bright side, that'll be one less brother sitting at home...
Alice, I need a vacation...maybe I should join too...We're not leaving for ours 'til next week, and some vacation THAT will be, with all the wedding preparations that still need to be done...

How about a Sunday afternoon mini-vacation. Grab your fiance, your sister or your best friend and demand that they join you for brunch and a movie. The only rule: absolutely NO wedding talk allowed. I bet a mimosa in a nice AC'd restaurant will do wonders!

It sounds like a good idea in theory, the only problem is, everyone is either out of town, or immersed in wedding...I hope to go to one of my sisters in law for the day tomorrow, the only problem is the first bus to the city she lives in doesn't leave until 10 in the morning, which means I don't get to her until 12, and I have to take the 6 o'clock bus home, unless I can find someone to pick me up form the bus stop after 10 at night when I get home. It sounds like a lot more time than it really is...

Thanks for asking! It was so much fun. He had one little friend and they were sooo cute when it was time for cake, digging right in, green frosting from head to toe. He is the sweetest little boy, lots of good manners. He always says, "Thank you very much!." We love asking him how old he says cuz' he says TWO and holds up all his fingers!!!

 This just proves that people who think teachers have it easy because we have summers 'off' are crazy! Our off means planning, reading, and more planning and reading. For those of you sending your kids off to college, be proud. I have a twenty two year old who still lives at home and only works part time. She has issues, although, things are getting better. Then I have a sixteen year old who plays select sports, which means lots of traveling, and always being out of money, us not her. Then there's my 'baby' who is twelve and has Down syndrome. Love him to death, but life can be quite trying. My husband and I are both teachers, so we have twice the school 'stress' in our house. We all just need to remember why we do what we do. Because we love kids and we love to watch them learn.

And parents have zero time off! Thanks for sharing, Teacher 218. I have a 23 year old high school dropout who works intermittently, is very slowly learning to deal with life (mostly the hard way), and a 20 year old who works full time and is becoming more and more responsible. Oh, and the 20 year old's boyfriend is with us, too. The benefit being that she stays home more so I know where she is.

Now that I'll be reporting to my new teaching job in a few wks., I've been doing a little each day. Today, I went to get fingerprinted & took a CPR class. I also went to the bookstore. I want to go on one nice mini-trip before I have to start work, but we'll see.

I have been in a week long 3 credit course on Teacher Effectiveness Training/ The class ends on Friday. I actually am enjoying it. The principles are really very helpful in all areas of life especially decision making.

I think every new teacher would benefit from this course. :)
