Do you ever give up on a book, or do you make an effort to stick with each one until the end? I can recall only quitting one and that was Where the River Ends. Just couldn't get through it.

    Curious is all. :)

Do you mean personal reading? Yes...I've quit before.

Yes, I have done that. I don't even remember what book it was but recently I took it back to the library before I was finished with it. I really make an effort to finish books but this had to be a horrible book if I gave up!

I don't abandon books often, but there are a few that I have.

I've quit on books. Life is too short to struggle through a book you don't enjoy.

I generally won't finish reading a book if I'm not hooked by the end of the second chapter or even by the end of the first chapter.

Yep, I have quit reading books. Not too many but if I'm really not enjoying it I don't see the point in struggling through it.

I quit Anita Shreve's Resistance. No matter how I tried I just could not get through it! although I do enjoy her other books- well the ones I have read so far, I just could not get into that one. I may try again because I hear only good reviews about it.

I have, but they are all still on my shelf in hopes of being tried again some day. Usually they are by authors I love, but are hard to get into for some reason.

I made it about 3 pages through The Hobbit before I gave up. Funny thing is, I love fantasy and have heard The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings are the best fantasy books, but I just list interest.

I have a lot of books in my house I never finished.

I even tell my students if they get a few chapters in and don't like it find something else.

Having only quit one book, I obviously have a hard time giving up...I always hope I'll find something to like about every book, and I usually so. Just not with the "river" book. :)

I teach my students to "interview" a book before choosing it. I have a form to help them through this process and I like to think it helps reduce the number of books a student tries before finding something. That said, they are also free to abandon a book...but I have to keep tabs on it because the majority of my students struggle with AR. A simple Letter of Abandonment helps them understand what type of book they're really looking for, and helps me help them.

I can remember the first book I ever quit. I was in 7th grade. I felt so guilty I had to talk to my teacher before I quit reading it. :)

I've only quit reading one book while in the middle of it. I can't remember the name of it though.
