If any of you can answer these for me, I'd be very grateful! I'll be teaching 2nd grade in the inner city of Miami next year, and I have a few questions. Okay, more than a few. No recess for grades 2 and up- can I have a structured outdoor activity as a reward for the last ten minutes of the day for those who earned it? I use recess an incentive for both behavior and homework. Do the kids have PE everyday for 30 minutes and art once a week for an hour? Do they get music, library, or computer instruction by a specialist or am I required to teach those subjects? Which subjects will I be teaching and approx. how much time is allotted for each one? Will I be doing small groups for reading, and if so, how long should each rotation last? Is there a requirement for DEAR or SSR time, and if so, how long? Can I get reimbursed for classroom supplies? Am I limited on photocopies, lamination, or other school supplies? What do I do if a child has no pencils, paper, crayons, etc. because the family cannot afford them? What themes/topics does second grade use (dinosaurs, weather, etc.) so I can gather resources? Do the curric. companies have info online where I can access this in more detail? Is there a school-wide discipline plan that all teachers follow, or is it left up to the individual? Do second graders get letter grades on report cards or use another system? How often are teachers observed? Can I teach outdoors when the lesson is appropriate and the weather is good? Is there a dress code for teachers? When is the soonest I can access my classroom to begin setting it up? Thank you!!!! I know a lot of the answers will depend on my particular school, but just reading about your experiences will help me.
