This summer I accidently fried my cell phone by forgetting it in my car on a 100 degree July day. It has not worked well ever since (the signal strength and battery life stink.) I'm trying to figure out the best way to get a new phone, since I've hated this one all along. I saw a really nice one for $80 with a new contract. Does anyone know if I'm allowed to renew my contract to get that deal? If so, I'm willing to do that. I know I did that years and years ago, but I think now you can't. Thanks!
I think so. My hubby washed his cell phone in the washer before T-giving and they allowed us to get a great deal and we renewed.
Verizon and AT&T both allow you to upgrade a phone every 2 years. This means you can get a new phone at the advertised prices and you sign up for a new contract. The downside to this is that if you have a great plan that no longer exists, then ou must get a new plan. With 3 teenagers, I am now an expert at getting new phones. My daughter ruined at least 3 phones this year alone!
Hmmm, well it hasn't been 2 years since I signed up, only about 1. I was hoping I could sign on for another 2 years and get a cheaper phone...
I'm w/ AT&T & I know I can't get a new phone until a certain date comes up. But, of course if I pay more money, I can get a new phone any time I want.
Sometimes they will extend you contract if you need a new phone and have no insurance on the phone. It doesn't hurt to ask. Verizon has done it for me after a year.
You can always buy a Verizon phone off ebay - it's usually cheaper if you aren't up for the new every two yet. I'm the "head" person on our account and can get a new phone every year if I pay the discount price also.
I found out back in June that as the primary phone carrier on our plan, I get a new phone every 6 months. I haven't had to renew my contract either.
I had to get a new phone this summer, and Verizon was great. The woman on the phone found a rebate for me that got me the phone FREE! I think I did renew my contract at that time, which was fine, because I like Verizon a lot. I would just call them and tell them the situation. They want to get into another long-term contract, and I bet they'll work with you! Verizon has always been so great with me. When I go over on my minutes, they just up my plan for the month, and then give me the option of going back down the next month. They even locked my internet for me so I don't accidentally hit the button and run up internet minutes.
It never hurts to ask. I had to replace my phone this summer and it wasn't an insurable reason (and I had just insured out a different phone two month's previously). I went into the ATT store and asked what they could do for me. They pulled up my account, which is really my dad's account (I'll mooch off him for as long as I can. I pay my portion of the bill. He pays obscenely low rates because he retired after over 30 years of service to "the company"...it was ATT, then So. Bell, then Bell South, now ATT again). Anyway, because of his job, he's had this account since Bell South Mobility/Cingular/ATT mobile phone division has been in existence. That means "my" account is almost 25 years old. They were really awful nice to me and I got a new blackberry pearl for 50 bucks...LONG before I would have been eligible for my two year upgrade (that's NEXT december). Anyway, the point is, you never know what they can do for you unless you ask.
actually.. we have at&t and have a plan that no longer exists and we keep the same plan when we upgrade the phone.. Its a great plan and really cheap.. they try and get us to up the plan but we always say no.
Have you tried a new battery?? I thought I was going to have to get a new phone too (right after Thanksgiving). But the new battery ($30) saved the day, the charge and the signal strength are back to when the phone was "brand new". Good luck...
Ya'lls Verizon is a lot nicer that mine from what I'm reading!!! I had a phone that stopped working for longer than 5 minutes at a time. Then something else died on it too. I was a few months away from my 2 years and they REFUSED to let me get a new phone without paying the FULL price for it. On top of that in the store the cheapest phone they sold at the time was about $150 and that was the bare-bones phone. So....I did what has already been suggested on here....I bought a new one through ebay and got a $300 phone for about $150 then paid about $20 through Verizon for a new battery for it and no cost to change the number to that phone from the old one.
You should have called them or went into a Verizon store. I will say- be careful of the Verizon Stores- some will say they are a Verizon store but they are not corporately own. Then, if something messes up, Verizon will not fix it (I learned this the hard way- I had no idea it was a locally owned store and got screwed). Anyway, Verizon's policy will let you renew a few months before the end of the term and get all the deals. If you went into a non-corporate owned store, they will not be as kind. Note: Circuit City is considered a corporate owned location as well.
