I did a Google search but nothing comes up as an answer.

My daughter is now 22. She worked in 2018 and 2019 here in California (didn't make a lot though)
In January 2020 she went to Arizona to stay with her dad in came home at the beginning of April. She was working in Arizona the entire time, but was furloghed due to Covid19. The plan was for her to transwer with her job here when she comes home, but because it was at the airport, no transfers were done, and eventually got furloughed.

    So my question is this:
Can she apply for unemployment in California if her last job that she lost was in Arizona? Her driver's license was never changed from California but she did live and work there for 2.5 months. I'm afraid that she can't, because if she stayed in Arizona, she could have applied there, but she left, so I don't know where that leaves her.

Can someone point me in the right direction? Thank you,

Not sure of the answer, but calls to both state's Unemployment Offices should provide guidance. There may be concessions made if the move back to CA was to provide family support/free housing, but I wouldn't want to give you bad information.

Actually finally I was able to find out the answer. She can apply here in California - she's doing it now but just saw that she can't do it online, it has to be printed out and faxed, so it will take longer. but anything helps. In 3 months she couldn't find a job (6 months ago, and as soon as she got to Phoenix, in 2 days she was hired at the airprot, working a lot of hours and making good money.

then this virus happened. With it, it will be even harder to find a job. She applied to Uber Eats almost 2 weeks ago and they're so slow, it's still pending.

I hear they are hiring a lot of Instacart shoppers too so maybe she could look into that.

She applied for Uber Eats, 2 weeks ago and it's still pending. I thought it would be much faster. Told her to get on Grub Hub and all the others as well.

We got a happy ending to this story. She mailed in her unemployment application and already got the answer how much she will get. Now a lot, but she didn't make much (only 22) but this is great. She's also getting her stimulus check tomorrow. She didn't file her taxes in 2018, but we went on the IRS website and was able to file something there for this purpose, gave them her bank account and it will be deposited tomorrow.
And she's got a job !! At Target, where she worked a while before, she had an interview Friday and Saturday they told her she's hired. The stimulus check news and the new job came the same day, the unemployment news a few days before. I'd say this was a good week :)

I've read that if you lost your job due to COVID19, and she did, the unemployment check will be $600 more per week. Both in California and in Arizona - not sure which state they look at.
    Hopefully she'll get that.
I don't feel guilty, in the almost 28 years in this country I have always worked, paid my taxes and never applied for unemployment - she definitely can use it.

I think the $600 is added on regardless of the reason your job was lost.

That's even better. But her unemployment paper didn't say anything about it so I'm wondering if it's a check that's separate or comes later on or how it's done.

In California EDD issues a debit card and funds are distributed through that. The $600 is just added in to the weekly amount. I don't know how long the payments will be made.

oh I didn't know. Like I said I've never applied for unemployment. But the letter she received is only talking about getting checks, no mention of debit card.

That is very strange. I can't imagine why it would be different. I don't know.

    That's great Linguist92021!

    QUESTION TO ANYONE WHO KNOWS:
How long did you have to wait between the time you applied for EDD in California & the day they said their approval/decline decision? I know thousands of people have applied so I assume things are really backed up.

I registered online. It took less than two weeks. But the rules have changed some and I can't really say how. All in all, the changes as far as amounts go are for the good. But as far as time to benefit payment, I don't know.

I soon got my own questioned answered...took me a week.
I also had a job in which I'm considered an employee (& not an IC) for the last 5 yrs.

    Thanks anyway, CaliforniaRPCV.

My daughter has been one of the lucky ones in Florida. It only took a month to get her first check to her. Of course, it was for the wrong amount, but she is still lucky compare to the half million Florida residents who are still waiting. The 600$ was given to her at the same time automatically.
I'm wondering if it was because Disney filed for everyone when they furloughed the cast members.

My daughter got everything squared away super fast, she got her notice that she was approved and within a week got her debit card. They put 2 weeks + the $600 for both weeks and then a week later they put another $1000 or something very close.

That 600$ makes a huge difference for Florida workers since their max unemployment is 275$ minus taxes.

Sure does & it's still more than the max they give in California, which is $450/wk.

The $600 is on top of the UI payment. So, if you were getting $450 you are now getting $1050.

^ Yep! I was just saying that this extra $600 is even more than the max they give normally in UI.

I agree that the extra $600 is a game-changer. In my state the max is $790/week. That, combined with the $600/week, has really helped ease my initial feelings of shock and fear when my hoosband and I were first laid off (on exactly the same day). It’s enough to pay the bills, which gives me so much relief.
