Who is the boss and supervisor of the principal?
Superintendent and the school board above that
We have an area superintendent above our principal, and then the superintendent.
Our superintendent is over the principal and then it goes right to the school board.
Director of Secondary Instruction, and then the Superintendent.
Superintendent then school board.
Obviously... the superintendent and the school board.
Director of Education, then the Superintendent
It may not be that obvious. Within fifty miles of me are districts so big that there are several layers of administration between the principal and the superintendent - and districts so small that the principal IS the superintendent.
Superintendents as a class answer to school boards, though the level on which that's true can vary.
Ours is the opposite, Superintendent then Director of Education.
For us it's the area superintendent.
Assistant Superintendent of Education Services, Director of Elementary Education, Superintendent, and the Board.

At my church, it's the bishop.
