Does anyone do this? I'm mostly paperless, but I've still been using a paper sign-out sheet (like for restroom use and whatnot). I'd like to get with the times, but I need some tips. Help?

I'm elementary, so this is just me shooting the breeze a bit: but what about kids who don't have cell phones / aren't supposed to use data? Otherwise, that'd be a cool idea!

What's your goal with the sign in/sign out sheet? To know specifically who is out, to log how many times a certain kid is going, or to just have a record?

I have an iPad for kids who don't have their own phone or data plan.

Mostly the goal is to have a record that I can produce if there are any shenanigans. I also like having the record in case of emergency for student accounting purposes. Unfortunately, I know I'll need it for that several times throughout the year. We've already had one real lockdown lasting well into the night, plus quite a few others that didn't last as long. If I can access a list of who is gone without having to go to my paper sign-out sheet near the front of my room and the big windows there, that would obviously be safer.

This sounds like an absolutely fascinating idea! Hm, I never thought to use QR codes to take attendance before. I wonder how the logistics would work for that?

My plan is to print a QR code on my bathroom pass with instructions to sign out when leaving and sign in when returning.

For regular attendance, you could print up individual QR codes for each student to scan when they enter and exit your classroom.

I had a professor last semester try attendance with a QR code. It seemed like a great idea but he had technical difficulties after a few of the classes so he scrapped the idea. I'm guessing because it was still a new idea that some of the students had a hard time figuring it out.
I think it seems like it would make attendance and such easier once everyone knows the classroom procedures. Good luck, let us know how it works out! :)

The library at my school has a Google form of some sort that is set up on a computer that is used for students to sign in and out for bathroom. Want me to find out what it is?
