So typically jobs open up in March around here but the openings are always pools for content areas or grade levels and then later specific campus/content openings are posted. I started thinking about it and am wondering if the specific postings are made because they don't find who they are looking for in the pools. Can anyone provide some insight to this? I would like to know if I'm wasting time applying again to those specific openings if I already did to the pools. Thanks!
Usually (not always), district don't know what exactly will be opened next year (still getting transfers, retirements, enrollments, etc. right now). They will start looking at applicants now. Sometimes people will quit late in the summer and they will need to find someone to fill in the position quick so they will look at who has applied before. I suggest apply now...and apply later when more positions are posted. Never not apply because you never know what will happen.
I was actually told the opposite by an admin. That principals look into pools if they did not like any of the candidates from a specific job posting. I am sure each school does this differently. Me personally, I tend to want to apply for specific postings rather than pools. In my area, there are not any English postings right now. It just seems to be odd jobs that are hard to find teachers for like piano teacher, Spanish, or criminal justice... I know English is not high demand but at least now I have teaching experience.
