How much time do you allow for publishing in a writing unit? I have some students who finished up quickly but some who are taking a long time. I hate to discourage them but feel they are not utilizing the writing time effectively if they take too long to publish.:thanks:

Major problem, isn't it? Sometimes, since I'm a fast typer, I'll type their stories for them. I'll type them just like they give them to me, save it, then they fix obvious errors they didn't see, and I'll go in and correct them for them.

Other times, I'll tell them they have one hour (one class period) to get the final copy in presentable format. If they can't type it, then handwrite it. If they work quickly, they can illustrate it and mount it on construction paper. If they don't, then no illustration, no mounting.

It is an important part of the writing process, but the kids sure can drag it out, can't they?
