The thread about technology in the classroom got me thinking.....
I just got a projector installed in my room. I'm also supposed to get a document camera in the near future. I'm THRILLED about the document camera...I know I will use that a TON. But what are some ideas for the projector?? Power points and videos from the internet (united streaming, etc) are all I can think of, but I don't really know what they 'do'.

I have 7 classes a day. I make a powerpoint with bell work (one class per slide) or announcements. I don't have to erase and write between classes, just have it projected when students arrive. They learn to look there as soon as they walk in.

If you have software like Inspiration you can use it for brainstorming with the kids. Basically anything you'd do on a computer, the projector just lets all the kids see it. You can use excel and collect data and convert to a graph, write a class story, explore maps, teach how to use the Internet, etc. Right now we are working on our weather unit so I am using the Internet to have my kids "predict" weather using weather maps. There are tons of electronic field trips. Sites like lacaost.gov have interactive educational sections. There's really no limit to what you can do. You will find lots of uses as you get more used to it. You will LOVE your document camera, too. I use my projector and camera many times during the day.

There are also great interactive websites you can use with your class.

I'm finding more uses for mine.

I make a one-slide powerpoint for morning work
A one-slide powerpoint for pop quizzes
Multiple slides with dolch phrases for practicing
I type directly into Word Docs I have made graphic organizers with
    United Streaming/BrainPop
    A to Z books

Whatever you do with the computer, television, or document camera you can do with the projector.
