    Hi all....

I am about to start an EPI program to become certified to teach K-6. I was told by the director that I would have to take the subject area exam and the PeD. My question is this: how do I prepare for the Ped? The vague description is that it covers mostly pedagogy and teaching method. I have yet to take an education class so this is a little disconcerting, to say the least! Can anyone give me any more information?

    Thanks!

The Competencies document for this examination is fairly specific, really. It's available at http://www.firn.edu/doe/sas/ftce/pdf/ftcomp00.pdf. If you haven't already done so, download this document. Then use it as a shopping list of terms to look up using Google or Answers.com or any other favorite Web site with which you have good luck getting terms defined. If time permits, look up the terms, and then spend some time observing in a public-school classroom looking for instances of the various terms that the Competencies document mentions.

And don't be shy about asking clarification questions here on A to Z.

I would expect that Praxis has something similar. Is the Florida test split up by grade levels, or what?

I just took the Professional Ed test last weekend. Surprisingly, it is not split up between levels.

Not split up? I think Praxis does split the material up, so stars could look at several different tests, in either prep books (which, for Praxis, tend to be available in libraries) or on the Praxis Web site (see http://www.ets.org).

The Professional is not split up?
I heard there is a lot of ESL questions on it and the FTCE study materials really doesn't cover everything that is on it.
    I take mine next Sat.
I also failed the K-6 Subject area. Not sure by how much. Waiting for scores next week. Unreal they don't give you the questions you missed!!!

12qwas, I didn't think there were a lot of ESL questions, but there were a few. I prepared by using the DOE's prep guide and googling and printing out the things I didn't know. Good luck!

You probably already have it b/c you said you had the FTCE study materials. I used the competencies and did research on each competency. Here's a link to the competencies...it's a PDF file:

    Good luck!
