Does anyone out there know of any good websites that would link me to professional development opportunities in English (High School level)? I am very interested in seeking out workshops in my local area of Los Angeles but I don't know how to search for them.

    Thanks for your help!

A good place to start might be CATE, the California Association of Teachers of English. I would expect there are parallel organizations for Southern California or LA County or even regionally within the county. You could also Google "English language arts professional development los angeles" and see what you get.

The CATE conference is coming up in February. It's in NorCal this year; Santa Clara to be exact. I'm presenting a session for the first time and I'm excited! Next year it will be in LA. If you go to the CATE website, you can link to the Southland and San Diego Council sites and see what they have to offer. If you work in the LAUSD, there are opportunities offer through them.

County offices of education can also be excellent resources - many of them host professional development.

If you are new to teaching, BER courses are pretty good.
