Working on my masters. Needed to whine and get it out in an anonymous setting. Turned it in 4 weeks ago. Grades are due tomorrow, and I have seen zero feedback on this paper. Especially frustrating when prof. said, "If you turn it in early you get a chance to edit."
    LIES.
Especially since I've got one semester left until graduation. Grrrrrrr.
Sorry. Just frustrated and needed to get it out.

That would be very frustrating. It's so interesting when you go back to being a student again, and get perspective on how students must feel when teachers do things like this, and also you feel a lot more sympathetic for the professors as well when students are being unreasonable.

    I. At least where I went to college, most of the professors were not there to teach. Teaching was just an additional responsibility for them. They were primarily there for research purposes. The sad truth is that if the professors were producing "good" research, it didn't matter to the university how bad the student reviews were on the end of course survey.

I remember experiencing this with papers for my education courses, and not caring that much, because I knew that all the education profs just handed out As like candy. It was more frustrating with my math profs, waiting for the results of the hard math exam.

I *might* be checking my university website hourly for my final grade. That being said, my professor has been the antithesis of flaky.

I waited all semester for a rubric for a lit review that I was completing through an independent study. The rubric never came, so I finally just wrote the lit review how I wanted and submitted it. Luckily I did get an A on it, but having no guidance was beyond a bit frustrating.

The thing is, at least for me, very few of my professors were ever K-12 classroom teachers. I think I had only one who ever was, and she was actually decent. The rest were just academics who went straight into Ph. D. programs.

My favorite was this lady I had who claimed how important it was that we individualize all instruction for the needs of the students (basically because "the research says so"). I once politely asked her to demonstrate how it would be done with us so we could have an idea of how it plays out, and I also suggested that it would easier for her to demonstrate with us because there wouldn't be any behavioral needs or IEPs to worry about with us, like we have to worry about with our students. She did not like me very much, and proceeded to teach us with the "one size fits all model". I slammed her in the end of course evaluation, which I rarely do.

That's the beauty of online classes!! When I got my additional certifications after my masters, I did them entirely online so it was basically just submitting papers.

And those particular teachers probably wonder why they keep failing their licensure exams... Shouldn’t the answer be obvious?

    Scary...

A thousand percent yes! It’s due in part to poor instruction they received in their upbringing. For example, we once had a sub who was studying for his MATH certification who didn’t know what EVEN and ODD numbers were...! When he said this in the teacher-staff lounge the whole room went quiet and I burst out laughing. The best part was when the art teacher said, “I’m horrible at math and even I know that. Why don’t you?” Needless to say, he has never subbed again for the school where I work.

Sorry, but ridiculous things are, by definition, deserving of ridicule.

Can you try next time checking the popular website "Rate My Professors.com", before scheduling for a course. You can read reviews left by former students of the professor there. I used it alot in university, no shame in my game at all. Maybe you could also a leave a review there for this particular professor or another.
    :)

Smaller state university. Some of the required courses are taught by only one professor, so there's no way around it.
But hey, I got 91% on it, leaving an A being the final grade. Yay!

I have to laugh a bit by how this thread is progressing. Calling out the teacher (professor) as being the problem for a grade that was not what one wanted. Just made me giggle a bit.

I thought the student always earned the grade, no matter what it was..... Not the fault of the teacher/professor.

This. How many times have we teachers discussed, here and in real life, how frustrating it is to be blamed by a student or parent when the student doesn't receive the grade they wanted?

In this case, kellzy was offered the chance to turn in an assignment early in order to make any corrections needed for the best grade possible. The professor didn't return the assignment in time to make the adjustments.

I said how the thread progressed. It progressed into someone else's comment about a flaky professor giving a lower than wanted to a poster other than the OP.

It was @Leaborb192 who complained about a grade due to a "flaky professor".
