I will be putting together procedures for many different things for my new classroom. Can you think of some things that need procedures.

    So far I have:
    Entering the room
    unpacking backpack/hanging it up etc
    notes from home procedures
    turning in daily folders
    turning in papers
    turning in homework
    turning in guided reading
    gathering lunch cards
    getting ready for lunch
    lunch basket procedures
cleaning up before leaving room during the day
    specials procedures
cleaning up at end of day
    sharpening pencils

    I know there are more---

    Thank you very much

    procedure for each center
procedure for when they need help and you are meeting with guided reading groups
procedure for when someone (adult) comes in the room
procedure for students who leave/enter the room (think kids in reading recovery/counseling/etc...)

where to put work for students who are absent
how/when to do classroom jobs (If you'll have them)
    how to use manipulatives
where to put notes from home
getting in line, standing line, walking in a line
how to raise your hand and WAIT to be called on
What to do if I cant call on you right away
responding to my signal when I need their attention
How to let me know you need help on your work.
How to skip a question if I am busy working with someone else when you need help.
where to put your work when you are finished
what to do when you are finished (choose a book, write a friendly letter to a friend )
what noise level is appropriate at specific parts of the day
    bathroom
Pencils - storing them, sharpening, returning the,
How to use centers, rotate centers, clean up centers

I might not call all of these procedures as I teach them -that can get overwhelming. But as things come up we start to realize how young they are and how much they need things spelled out: Like how to wait to be called on, or how to keep working while they are waiting for help.

Thank you everyone for responding to this. I am going to start ironing out my plans for these things. If you think of any more, please let me know.

Throwing thing into the trash - do want them to raise their hand?
Getting a tissue- I use hand signals
Fire drill procedures - always practice with my students
Practice calendar is great because my students can now "play" teacher and supervise our morning routine!
