What do you use for privacy folders in your classroom? I used the yellow file folders last year and just taped them together. However, some of the kids wrote all over them. I’m also wondering if the folders were tall enough to prevent kids from cheating. I’m wondering if I would be able to use the yellow folders again and laminate them (after I erase them)!
I bought the ones from Really Good Stuff several years ago (maybe in 2013ish, back before I decided to stop spending my own money on stuff for the classrom), and they are still holding up really well. I only pull them out for tests or for an individual student who might need a buffer between him/herself and another student. Yes, they've occasionally written on them, but I always talk to them about being respectful because they are expensive items that I paid for out of my own pocket. Most students treat them well. It's one purchase that I don't regret.
I'm going to try to ask for these in my school budget order (which is new to me!) Lakeshore has these and I could get 30 of them. My classes will be around 22-25 kids so I could ask for the ReallyGoodStuff ones and 1-2 kids might not have one. If I asked for 3 sets of these Lakeshore ones, every kid could get one! I don’t have experience with the ones from Lakeshore, but they appear to have good reviews. So I’d go for it, especially if your school is paying!
I'm going to ask for them and see what they say! If my school does get them for me, I am going cover the front part with clear contact paper so the kids can't write on them. I am hoping to have better classroom management with this but last year my kids wrote all over them. The other teacher told me that she takes a day around the end of the year to erase her privacy folders & lots of teachers had the same issue,
Honestly, the writing doesn’t get to me. If it’s inappropriate, it gets erased. But that is rare. If I don’t show that I’m bothered by the writing, the kids stop doing it, and they stop caring when they see that someone else has done it: it’s a pretty minor thing.
Yeah, last year they were definitely inappropriate! I honestly didn’t care and told the kids to ignore it or erase it when they told me. But it is more annoying that I have to erase them all before next year. I hope I can get these from my school!
Assign classroom numbers and have students only use the corresponding number privacy shield. It might not stop the writing, but it might since you’d only have a few “suspects” to start with.
Wow! Those are nice. They remind me of mini time out tables.. I had forgotten how we used to have to use folders and books to prevent cheating at my old school. The rooms were smaller, kid's were ability grouped, and all worked on the same thing. Now we have bigger rooms, varied ( almost independent levels) and fewer kids, but I am not joking...sometimes 1 student = 100. It may be like that lots of places now.
Those are nice! I use two legal-size file folders staples together--not pretty, but they serve the purpose.
This is what I did last year! I still have mine so I'll use them until my new ones get here. Some of my kiddos from last year wrote and drew things that were not appropriate for school so I may have to go through them...haha
