I have been asked to teach a preschool music class next year. I have worked with 4 and 5 year-olds for the past two years. I will be working with ages 2-5 next year in 20 minute blocks for each age group. I was wondering if anyone has experience teaching music classes for this age group. I am seeking advice on introducing musical concept to the younger kiddos, incorporating enrichment and dramatic play into our music, and just any other ideas or opinions on this subject. Thanks a bunch!
We love Jim Gill in our classroom. I went to a pretty neat music workshop earlier this year. PM me in about two weeks (when the stress of the last two weeks is over) and I can get you details.
Thanks, I'll do that. It may be a little further out before I get back with you. The next couple of weeks for me are full, as well. It's summer time!
The music teacher where I student taught had a velcro schedule for the kids, which he used every time. Example 1. Good morning song 2. (Some new song-singing) 3. Some new song-instruments (maracas, tamborines, etc). She usually got through about 4 songs I think. They used lots of movement for everything. Some good children's musicians are Jim Gill, Jack Hartmann, and Laurie Berkner.
