How long does ETS take to send the PPST Praxis I scores? I am not going to break down and pay to call. Such a racket! I took it 02/07. Patience, as you can tell, is one of my strong suits! :D

Also, has anyone taken the Virginia VCLA exam? I only found a few stray posts, including the most recent one on time management. I am registered to do all parts this coming Saturday. I haven't had time to do any studying for it, and I didn't do much for the Praxis (I did manage 187 on both math and reading, hopefully writing is ok--the essay worries me). From what I understand, it is harder than the Praxis, but I haven't really seen any good study advice online. The available guide is sort of vague. I guess I just want reassurance that it will be ok and that it isn't some untameable monster! Someone pat me on the head and give me a cookie.

I generally work quickly--I finished all parts of the Praxis in about half the allowed time, so I am not overly worried about the 4 hours or time management. I guess mostly I am just not looking forward to it! All these tests; March 13 is my Praxis II. Then I may take two more of them in the summer, finances permitting.

I thought the VCLA was simple, but it did take me the full four hours. I'm a perfectionist when I'm writing, and the short answer and long essay took up a large chunk of time as I had to outline everything. That, and there was a girl in front of me who would not.stop.sniffing... that totally broke my concentration at times. :p Since you're a quick test taker, it should make you happy to hear that you're allowed to leave when you're done with the VCLA. In addition, I found that the sample questions on the VCLA website gave me a good idea of what was on the exam. Check it out, see how you do.

Good luck-- you'll be fine!! I'm eating Girl Scout Thin Mints (dipped in milk!) right now and will eat one just for you. :D

It was simple. I got 100% on both sections of multiple choice. It took me about 2 1/2 hours; mostly because I was so tired and the stupid serif font was so tiny that my eyes kept going buggy.

I can get a zero on the summary and essay and still have passed, so no stressing out about the scores!

The thing that worries me a little though is that since Virginia is using this instead of Praxis I, does that mean elementary school teachers don't need any math skills test at all? They are the ones who get kids started learning math!

Now, I just have the Praxis II Earth & Space Science content exam on the 14th and I will be all done with these tests! Yay.

BTW, I also had The Sniffler. It was annoying. I also had The Noisy Typer and The Squeaky Chair.

Why do they fingerprint you FOUR times? It was ludicrous. You get fingerprinted at the front desk, you walk 2' from that desk to another desk in front of the test room door and they fingerprint you again. Then, on your way out, you get fingerprinted yet again at BOTH stations. It was nuts.

I'd guess, Mollydoll, that the reason you get fingerprinted multiple times is that the cheaters in Virginia are as inventive and resourceful as the cheaters in California...

Interesting that VCLA doesn't test math - though do bear in mind that Praxis II exams for elementary teachers do include a fair number of questions about math.

I think that if anyone can figure out how to disappear and have a replacement appear in their stead while they are being escorted the 2' between desks, they deserve perfect test scores and any other accolades that can be dreamt up.

This would be a Mission Impossible style stunt!

Good to know about math in the Praxis II. There isn't any math in my science content exam though, except perhaps some simple measurement questions. I just question the wisdom of deleting a math testing requirement entirely while simultaneously trumpeting the rigor of the state testing standards.

My experience is that the math in multiple-subjects tests is more advanced than the math in basic-skills tests... but, yes, it's disquieting to send the message that social studies teachers (for example) don't need to know math.

Still no Praxis scores. They do take their time, don't they? It has been more than 3 weeks now. I need them for my grad school application and it would be nice to know my writing score before my job interviews. I had thought from the posted score report dates that a month was enough time.

Hm. The testing date schedule should indicate when scores are supposed to be released.

They say 10-15 working days. Today is day #17. Yes, I have no patience. Bananas are in the kitchen.

Thanks. Still nothing today. But, yikes, the grad school needs these scores. I just found a new place on the site where they tell you to allow 10 working days for delivery AFTER the mailing deadline. If they take that full 10 days, my grad school application is going to be discarded as incomplete. *gulp*

It was really hard to get an appointment to take the test. I did it on the 7th and had to make that appointment over a month in advance, so it isn't like I was a total procrastinator here.
