I am in a whirlwind, and need help seeing out of it. I took my Praxis Core last week and by my unofficial scores I should pass it. I am graduating with my undergrad in Psychology on the 20th of this month , and the school where I am currently a Para has offered me a teaching position to start in January. I have five days to study for all my Praxis 5001 before taking it and I feel like I am being eaten alive with all this information. I purchased the mometrix study guide and have been studying it like crazy. I thought I was much more prepared than I really am for this exam. I am hoping that someone else who has taken these exams in the last few months can give me a better idea of what to really focus my study energy into then just studying everything if it is not something I will really need. Any help or encouragement would be greatly appreciated because I am drowning in self doubt at this point .
Do you absolutely need a passing grade on all four sections of the 5001 by the beginning of January? When would you become a functional teacher, probably with a provisional certificate? What state are we talking about? It may help you receive answers that are specific to your needs.
If I pass all four exams this week I will be able to enter the alt cert program to become certified, and I will be able teach while I am in the alt cert program. I am in Louisiana. If I do not pass the exams then they will keep the long term sub in there until I pass, but it would be best to pass it all so that I can begin shortly after the current teacher retires.
I was reasonably certain that you were talking about going alternate route. My son took that set of exams when he wanted to add the K-6 endorsement to his certificates here in NJ. He was able to pass the entire battery of tests in a single sitting. His recommendation to a friend was to watch your time so that you don't get too bogged down in any one section. I know that he used the practice exams offered by ETS, and he was quite happy to pass in one shot. He thought that those practice exams were representative, and he didn't use any other study aids. https://forums.atozteacherstuff.com...passed-thoughts-and-tips.199625/#post-2036269 @TeacherGroupie is an excellent resource, and you may want to check some of the suggestions made about resources to use to study for this set of exams. Best of luck.
