My daughter, started Kindergarten (KG) this year. The very first day of school i took her to her new daycare and stayed with her till they transported her to her school. I met her at her school took her to her class and made sure everything was ok. Later that day i picked her up from the bus stop (which she goes to GMA's house for an hour). Everything at school went great. After the first week of school she has peed her pants every single day at school. First she told me that she was scared to use the bathroom in their class room cause the light went off on her while she was in there. It was on a timer and i emailed the teacher and asked her to have maintenance guys fix it so it stayed on all day. I even gave her a flashlight to wear around her necklace so she could take it into the bathroom so she wouldn't be scared. She still continued to wet her pants. I would talk to her about it every day asking her when she peed her pants so i could figure out what was going on. I then started giving her times when she had to go potty. Example, when daycare drops you off go to the main bathroom and go potty, then go to your classroom. Before each recess go potty. Still every day she would come home wet. One day she came home with a pair of undies from school and different pants. Yesterday, I emailed the principal because she told me that when she is in the lunch room, they don't let her go potty. I also asked the principal to check the light in her classroom. The principal responded and said she checked the light and it is set to stay on all day long now. She told me that she was going to check out the lunch room incident. I asked her if the prinicpal talked to her and she said yes. From what she told me the principal asked if she knew where the restroom was and showed her. Then she said she asked her if she needed to go to the nurse to get changed, she said yes. Acouple of days ago when i got to GMA's house she came up to my car and said mom i peed today, like it was a good thing. I put a change of clothes in her bag so she doesn't have to wear their undies. I am at such a lost of how to get her to go potty and stop peeing her pants. It's not usually just a couple of dribbles it's a full on pee her pants soaked incidents. She has been potty trained since she was about 14 mths old. Yes she has had accidents here and there but not a month straight. Does any one have any suggestions? Nothing has changed at home and i really want to get to the bottom of this. I am so frustrated with this and pretty embarrassed that she is doing this every day. Please help as i'm so frustrated . --
Hi, YEARS ago... I watched a child I knew. The first day of school she gets off the bus and comes running up to me and was in different clothes than what she left in (I saw her off to school as well). I asked her what happened, she told me that she did like she did at home. What happened was she didn't pull her pants low enough and then hop on the toilet, so her pants got wet (she was little in K). So I'm wondering if your daughter might be having some of the same issues. Maybe the toilets are too high for her? It was just what came to mind reading your problem. Make sure you tell her to pull her pants real low as well, maybe that would help. Good Luck...
I had a child one year that would go into the bathroom everyday and I thought she was going, but she wasn't. She was also wetting herself everyday. We finally figured it out. She was afraid of the automatic toilet flushers. They are very loud and the water is flushed with a lot of force. Apparently they scared her, but she didn't tell anybody. Once we figured this out, the guidance counselor would pick her up from my room during certain times of the day and take her to the bathroom by herself (I don't have a bathroom in the room so all my kids have to use the main bathrooms). The guidance counselor made sure she went and worked with her until she got over her fear. She was fine in a few days. I don't know if your child's school has automatic flushers, but I have had several other kids that have been frightened by them at the beginning of the year. Its something to check out????
Some children don't like to go if there is another child in the bathroom. They like their privacy. Are your toilets out in the open or are they in stalls? Just a thought.
Have you asked her if she experiences any pain when going potty? Could potentially be a UTI. Might be worth speaking to her pediatrician about.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions. She is pretty tall but i will ask her if she is having problems getting on the toilet. I think the bathroom in her classroom is a one stall restroom, but i will ask her. As far as the UTI, she got her shots, a urnalysis and finger poke done on Aug 30 and started school on the 5. I called the nurse and asked her if the urnalysis showed anything and she said no. I have also asked my daughter if it hurts and everytime she has said no. Alittle bit ago i did email the teacher and asked her for her suggestions. I might just have to take a day off work and stay with her one day and tell her ok this is when we go potty. This is the only thing i can think of. Do KG teachers usually stop and say ok everyone go potty or ask them if they need to go?
I student taught in a K room & subbed in K. Unless there was a lesson because there was a bathroom in room they were free to use it as they needed to. I know even when I taught 1st I would tell them before they entered class (had to use main bathroom) to go, we had a break about 2 hrs after they could go, after lunch & recess. Some that I knew had long bus rides would go before getting on bus. Your daughter may be tall, but I know when I had the little girl show me at home how she went (I knew her since she was baby), she would only pull pants to like mid thigh... taught her to pull them to knees...no more problems.

At the schools I've taught at we've always had certain times that we taken the kids to the bathroom. Usually mid-morning & again after lunch/recess. Sometimes, again in the afternoon, that one would depend on how late lunch was. Of course, if anyone needed to go, they just asked & if there wasn't direct instruction going on, they were allowed to go. Things to consider: Is it happening at a certain time of the day? Is she asking to go when she needs to? Can she do her own belt/zipper/whatever? Is she giving herself enough time? I've had kinders that have accidents because they wait until the last possible second to ask and then can't get there in time. Or they can't get the belt/zipper undone. Or they are so engaged in what they are doing that they don't stop until they've lost control. Good luck.
The teacher called me last night and we spoke for a good 15 mins. It just seems like maybe my daughter forgets to go or is worried she is going to miss something. I have instructed my daughter to go to the bathroom when she gets to school and everyt time BEFORE they go to recess. I asked the teacher how long it was inbetween all these and she said about 45 mins. So there is no reason that she should be wetting her pants. The teacher said she was going to ask/tell Allyson to go potty before recess and see if this helps. Her teacher is worried about her as i am. Oh also the teacher said the kids are allowed to go to the bathroom anytime they want. They only time she asks them to wait is when they ask her while she is giving instructions. I really really hope today is a good day. She loves her teacher so maybe this little jump of thinking she is not going to miss anything will help?? Gosh i hope so! Thank you again to everyone.
