So this morning when I got to school I realized that a huge bag of candy (the good stuff--Reese's, Snickers, Skittles, etc.!!!) is missing from behind my desk. I know that it was there yesterday because that's the day I brought it to school. We used about half of it playing a review game and practicing our Latin numbers. I was saving the rest for today for another activity. I don't know whether a student inadvertently picked it up along with his or her bag (I do have students sitting in my desk area because my class numbers are hovering near 50 this year and I don't have nearly enough desks....), or if a custodian took it. Last year I caught, as in literally saw with my own eyes, a custodian stealing pop out of my fridge, so this last possibility wouldn't surprise me. What would surprise me is if a student stole it. In the five years I've taught at this school, I don't recall ever having any of my personal belongings stolen by a student (although once I had some empty binders on a bookshelf go missing). Ugh. What a way to start the day and year. Until I get to the bottom of this, I guess there will be no candy, treats, or prizes of any kind.
