I was moved to middle school this year, which I was totally dreading. However, I have found one HUGE plus to this switch...my new coworkers have been SO fabulous!! My team is very supportive and always willing to help. Other teachers in the building have stopped to ask how things are going and show their support and even support staff has given me a lift (the special ed. department commented that they were thrilled to have someone who knew how things worked in their room and thanked me for always thinking of their students - I subbed in this school for four years before being hired full time 3 years ago...and have had A LOT of special ed. students in the past four years). My last school was a pretty negative environment, so I'm thrilled to finally be in a building where people build each other up instead of tear each other down. Just had to share.
I LOVE working at the MS level for that very reason - in elementary, it's sometimes rather catty, HS tends to just be apathetic... but every middle school I've ever worked in (granted, not many) has been incredibly supportive and there is really a 'family' atmosphere. So happy this has been a positive change for you!
That is a wonderful report. I'm so happy for you because those changes can be huge in your life. I am a middle school teacher and feel the same way about where I work.
