I just printed out a lot of ideas - poetry theater, group story writing, lessons for writing various kinds of poems (dream poems, if-you-were poems, on top of old smokey poems.....). get your hands on Poetry that Matters: A Writing Book for Kids by Ralph Fletcher. Although it will be a bit overwhelming for 2nd graders, I have used it for my third and fourth graders with great success. Even if you do not use it directly with the kids, you will learn much yourself...
