A few friends of mine incorporate poems into their classroom daily to help with fluency, sight words, and other things. Anybody do something like this? I'm thinking of trying it out this year if I can squeeze time into our already ridiculously crammed scheduled. :)

Yes, two times per week is great. You can also add in as a center activity (reading and writing).

I try to get to it 3 times a week... Either during our Morning Meeting or as a filler when we have an extra few minutes.

I usually alternate between quality poems that I am using to teach poetry/writing/literary elements etc and phonics poems that I am using to teach a specific skill.

Where do you find the poems to go along with your skills?

I do a poetry two or three times a week. My kids love when we our "coffeehouse" reading.

We do it every day. Same poem for a whole week. I am very grateful for the Smartboard now so I don't have to write them out on chart paper every week any more! I love it for the fluency and comprehension part of it but also for the vocabulary. We do it as part of our whole group warm-up in the morning. I use a wide variety-everything from Silverstein to Langston Hughes. Sometimes I choose one that goes along with an upcoming holiday or season, sometimes just for fun. ;)
