What are some good general poems or poets for pre-k children to hear? I teach 4-year-olds. They like some of Shel Silverstein's.

Chicken Soup with Rice: A Book of Months by Maurice Sendak is great for little kids. Each month has a short poem that is easy to recite (we say the poem of the month each day during calendar and they pick it up quickly!). Also, Jack Prelutsky has funny/silly poems that your kids might like.

I use a lot of poems from "The Mailbox" preschool magazine.

I use a lot of Nursery Rhymes, the past few weeks we've done spider and pumpkin related ones.

    theVirtualVine.com has LOTS of poems.

AND pre-kpages.com has a few poems to go with themes that I've used too.

    I miss Mrs Pohlmeyer,,,
