let's do some research together turtle321...

I spent most of the morning in the phone book.
we need to find social service agencies. look some more. see if you have these places:

    St. Vincent de Paul
    Lutheran Social Services
    Catholic Charities
    Salvation Army
    etc.

and then the churches in your neighborhood

the Catholic churches have pantries, but some restrict only to their parish. so you must tell them where you live so you won't waste a trip.

let's call, explain situation, and they will tell us what services they can provide.

contact local school pta also. they do a food drive for Thanksgiving and Christmas. you don't always have to be a parent to receive help. also, ask the Girl Scouts and Boy scouts. this is the time the start collecting and need lists of families to help.

if you can find a shelter, they usually have food pantry too.

I don't want to wait until lights are cut off, and then find out there is a way to stop it.

these places double as job contacts..

this is what I do... almost every head start or pre-k program is in a agency like this.

Yes, that's where I got my referral from, the local agency that also deals with Head Start.

Thank you. I feel funny going to PTA and girl/boy scouts...as I am familiar with these people thru my child and I don't want the 'looks' and gossip to start.....

I will try the charities, although, I do not attend services regularly and will feel a bit awkward.

All I need is a job & all this b.s. will be moot.

Thank you again, Master Pre-K.....I will keep you updated. Good luck to you too.....:)

yeah...it's such a small town, I am afraid the whole building will soon know the new-black-girl in the building doesn't have a job! we saw her name on the xmas basket list at church!

why do they keep asking me, "has your lite service been shut off or are you in forclosure?"

why should do folks wait until that happens and then look for help?

I need help now...I hope to have a job before the first snowfall!

hey, you bought candy, cookies and helped out more than once. forget about them, you deserve some help!

my own kid said, "Mom...the Natl Honor Society had to deliver gift baskets, and somebody put one on my desk!"

I said, bring it home...we need it. swallow your pride, so we can swallow some food!

and when she was younger..."Mommy, I have something from school. its a present!" Ok, I said. put it under the tree.

after new years, I saw this envelope by the tree skirt (that's a white towel with tinsel on it ). A $50 gift certificate from Jewels!:wow: Talk about cleaning up and being thankful!!

Turtle, the food pantry at our church is not just for the people who attend services. It is for anyone in the community who needs help.

4 pages girls, 4 PAGES I had to read through from the last time I was on (which wasn't that long ago). I'm praying for you all. Sometimes we have to sit back, let go, and let God drive for awhile. His time does not necessarily line up with ours.

    Ashe (Amen) to that smalltown.

it NEVER lines up. we usually spend most of our time waiting on God. but it's because we're a society and race of ppl that want everything RIGHT NOW!! and because we're spoiled by God (cuz he gives us all kinds of goodies) we want our goodies when we think of em and want em!!

lol@ u having to read through 4 pages. where ya been?

yes. i stayed home. my niece was sick too and i figured if she had to come back home i'd be here, but i didn't want to just keep her home so we would breathe each other's germs. i have recovered MOST of my voice. but these past 2 days have been COOL b/c i'm able to gather my thoughts, think about what i'm going to go back and do on monday. think i'm ready for this..

although i drive past elementary schools & students and wince in a small voice-"i want elementary, i want elementary.." :( :sniffle sniffle:

mstemple, sometimes that's all it takes is just a couple of days to think clearly and come up with a gameplan, then go in on Monday and knock 'em dead!

And you will have elementary one day. In March, start sending out resumes to elementary schools around the area. That's when most schools hand out contracts and teachers either sign/don't sign. I know that you're not happy with high school, but maybe it's just giving you some more experience to push you to the front when you go to interview for elementary positions. Girl, I drive by the schools and think *I should be in there teaching* (sniff, sniff)

There was a verse I heard this morning that made me think of all of you. It is Isaiah 30:18 which says, "Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you, the Lord waits on high to have compassion on you and the Lord the God of justice, how blessed are those who wait for Him." I heard it on Chuck Swindoll's broadcast, but I have not been able to find the version of the Bible it is in. C. Swindoll said that the Lord waits for us to stop running and rest so he can bless us when we WAIT on Him.

yep. everything i got up until now, i got it once i stopped wondering, worrying and planning. we get so caught up w/: plan a plan b, what if what if back up back up-that we forget there's a God above in charge of everything that strategically places us in positions not for us but for his glory. And it just so happens that we make out in the end as a result. So God gets the glory AND we get blessed. And once WE (and i do mean we because i am still included in that bunch) get hold of that ideology and realize that everything is for a reason and no matter how many back up plans we have it's unnecessary because God has the ONLY plan that will not failed & destined to work.

there's a gospel song called "Let Go". And the chorus goes:

    Soon as i stop worryin
    Wonderin how the story ends
I let go and I let God,
    Let God have his way
    That's when things start happenin
When i stop lookin at back then
When I let go and i let God,
    Let God have his way..

Seems that song always comes on the radio (i keep it tuned to the gospel station) when i'm wondering what's going to happen. And as smalltown told me one time, no matter what i've done in the past, God still wants good for me and is not "punishing" me with trials & tribulations. Neither is he punishing you. He is however, testing us all. Testing us to see just how long we'll continue to try things our own way. When we stop, he can bless us, as teach said.

That still small voice can only be heard then.

the ones with the young people are usually tacky, messy, and slow. It's a known fact, they grab all the good stuff for themselves. the younger workers don't have any patience!

my grad class wants me to help out as a service project for observation hours at a food pantry. would I be wrong if I asked for a basket, after she signs off on my assignment sheet! I did that before, but I didn't ask, they just gave me one!

I think its great that the seniors are able to keep busy and work. in fact one of my neighbors volunteers at her church  so I may have to dodge that one! one neighbor works in the library. another works in a school. before long, half the building will be saying..

I saw the new-black-girl in our building today...Ethel saw at her church food pantry, and Jim saw her in the library! Is she working??? :eek:hmy:

I had my Dad send me care packages of Quaker Corn Meal. Couldn't find any in L.A.

When I was younger, he used to stop by, ring my bell, and when I looked out the door, he left a bag of groceries on my porch..waved and smiled as he walked back to the car.

    sigh...

I also sent my daughter care packages in college. she missed her favorite foods.

cans are heavy, but I could send speghetti & stuff

no ramen noodles..I can't even walk down that aisle

that one or the microwave popcorn aisle

I am too broke to be allergic to free food!

"So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. matthew 6:34

    Do Not Worry
22Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[a]? 26Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

sheesh, I just want a food basket from the pantry.

I know that its Columbus Day on Monday, but a lot of districts give the day off to the kids, but have parent conferences that day. The district I worked at last year is going half a day in the morning Monday, Tuesday and the afternoons are parent conferences.

MPK, :toofunny: on the this is God comment.

That's my signature! My hubby was constantly telling me not to worry, and I found this verse right after he said it for the 1,0000 (using nikki's #) time. It has helped me.

Now if I can just dump these boxes of papers, which are know have no real meaning in my life, but if I let go, somebody will call me or write me and say I didn't pay a light bill back in 1997 or something. Or like now, I can make a new resume for customer service, and I can back track every job I had since 1997, dates, salary, phone numbers. sheesh...this is a lot of work, finding work!!!

No, WE have school on Monday. This whole afrocentric school business. I guess they don't like the "white man's holiday". Bogus to me. But whatever, we have a half day on Thurs and no school (for the kids=staff development) Friday.

And to anyone who reads that "white man's holiday" comment, that's just me using a radical phrase. It is no way shape or form stating my beliefs. But I think that's how they view it, that's why this school scared me a bit @ first. Cuz i'm so0o0o0o the opposite. But it's cool. They call presidents' day "elders' day" and we have off.
