    undercover,
i'm a little confused by your posts only because i realize you're trying to vent without divulging your life story to total strangers (for now we are anyway). and i completely understand. i just hope that over time whatever it is that these people have done to you recently will only make you stronger and call on that strength when you need it down the line. and i hope it doesn't discourage you from the world of education. they definitely need teachers like us-the ones who CARE and WANT to make a difference and not just read from a curriculum book, get paid & go.

but we're glad to have you back. we're always posting. random things. every day, if you check often enough you'll find new posts about every 20 mins or so. its cool. and if you haven't, read from page 1 and see how we've evolved. although i'm sure you have, but if you haven't, then hey-it'll occupy your time and you'll feel better when your finish.

p/m me or anyone you think will listen if you don't want it out in the world but want to talk. i don't know your situation, but it sounds like it has you pretty upset and it sounds like these adults really beat on you. that's just horrible..

I brought in my id, and social security card. If there were others in the household, they would've needed their ss cards as well. I waited for AN HOUR for someone to talk to me for 15 min. They asked me if I rented or owned, if I had health insurance, (that would be a big fat NO now), and how much money I got paid. I had to tell her about my last school paycheck, and she looked at me like I was crazy. But, I explained that money paid for this month's rent, car payment, and my foot surgery bills. That there is NO income at this time. So that helped. Oh also, there was a lady in there the same time I was who said she'd just gotten back from a cruise to the Bahamas??!! and then got on her cell phone and was negotiating with someone about a quilt she wanted made, to buy. ugh

    who knows anymore

i sure do hope so..

i keep feeling like ELEMENTARY, ELEMENTARY.. but i don't know if it's just me trying to run from HS or a real feeling of being called to that age range (b/c younger children are easier for me to deal with than such opinionated HSers).

but i've just finished praying, and i'm hoping that sometime before Monday I know whether to stay here (b/c i've been called here) or if I made a mistake in choosing this place and should have gone elsewhere. i don't know. i've never felt incompetent before. unorganized? yes. unprepared? yes. all over? frazzled? yes. teaching an unimportant subject? yes. feel like the kids don't really care & want to be elsewhere? yes. but just downright unsure of whether i know what i'm doing and if i can do it and if the kids are getting ANYTHING from it after 2 yrs of teaching and into my 3rd? (i know it's not 20 or even 5, but i'm not a full out rookie)

    ........ :tired:

daysy, I'm glad that you're getting help!
Turtle, things will turn around. I know that it seems bleak now, but IT WILL GET BETTER!
mstemple, DO NOT DARE quit that job. You went through so much to get there. Give it time and you will knock their sox off!
sadundercover, I think I know who you might be (but I won't tell :) ). Do not let this nasty experience ruin the career that you have worked so hard at. There will be teachers that think they know everything and they are the BEST teacher. You know your skills as a teacher so do not let someone else tell you you're not good enough to be a teacher. I used to think the same thing. That I wasn't good enough to be there and that my coworkers would find out. But I finally realized that we all have our own strengths and we have to work with what we have and improvise the rest. The principal you describe could have been mine last year. She was so nice in the interview, but then after the first 6 weeks, it seemed she was after me. And she didn't let up, but I had people around me that knew what a great teacher I am and they kept telling me that just so I would remember. And I realize now that they are right! I am a good teacher, and will be when I get that oh so elusive job. Do Not give up!! Hang in there and keep fighting. And you know you can always come here and hang out with us.

quote: proverbs 3:5 "train up a child in the way he should go and...he will never depart from it.."

    ditto from me too, sadundercover...

we are fed up and not gonna take it any more. and mstemple is so loyal, she found a job, and she still keeps in touch with us!

    i honestly thought, I can't sit here around and complain...but hey..if I didn't have a safe place to vent..I would never get a job.

if you ask some of the folks in my "What Year Is This" thread, they would think I am overreacting to a racist interview question!

glad I got some friends out here sticking up for me!

    Because His Lives

Isaiah 40:31 - But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint. (KJV)

    sing with me:

mpk, prov 3:5 is "trust in the lord with all thine heart" the rest goes "lean not on thine own understanding, in all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths." i can't remember where 5 ends and 6 begins. only reason i know that verse is b/c it's in my sig. on my emails.

i'm about to change it to romans 8:28. because i know that in the end, as much b.s. as we go through-teaching or LOOKING TO TEACH- when it's over, our latter will be better than the first. glad about that one.

i'll find the "train up a child" one.. gimme a sec, i see we havin bible study tonight mpk!! you keep throwin us verses! go on head and give us a word then!! pastor master!
    LOOOOOOOOOL hey that rhymes!! ;)

maybe ss# cards for everyone in family. some are really picky about it..want to verify total number in household. may ask you to explain your situation. don't be shy, they may have more services besides food! if you tell them you aren't working and worried about lights being cut off, they may be give you voucher for that!

bring some bags, some places don't have extra. clear out room in car, or get somebody to pick you up.

come early. don't talk on cell phone or pull out your wallet to see if you have enough money for McDonalds. do look like you got your act together. i.e. - street smarts. some places have low-lifes, looking for an easy pick off. most are safe..just plain old folks like us...looking for help.

most places have a number (like at the deli or bakery counter). or just get in line. they may ask for ss# and they may tell you about other places. take all info, you never know what else can help! some places also offer thanksgiving and Christmas baskets..so sign up now. some have clothes too. so if you need a coat soon, keep that in mind before you spend your little money on winter wear.

    abc's of food pantries

staples are most of what you get. I was really blessed today. I got meat and eggs, fresh eggs! never saw that before. but most places will have can goods. can't be picky, may be some off/generic brand you never heard of. one place used to give me new products that flopped, superman cereal, fiber enriched everything..etc. may be some ethnic food that you never had before...garbarzo beans? humus?

how come I never saw a can of Glory Collard Greens in my bag! :haha: my daughter loves them! I like them the old fashion way, fresh from store, or picked out the backyard, washed and cooked all day! greens in a can, what is next??

anyways, be very careful about dry goods, cereal, pasta, etc. some stuff even in the stores are open, and little critters are hiding there! :eek:hmy: check for expiration dates on everything. if cans are dented, rusty or dirty on top, I toss them! anything past date I toss too.

you may get day old bakery goods. stores can't sell them. so be careful, make sure it is nothing opened.

be careful going to your car. people may want to 'help' you..and again..some are up to no good.

when you get home, maybe go to your porch to take out and sort stuff. may be critters in bag! that way, you can clearly see what is good, what is questionable, and what you can give away to others.

Oh, remember the rules of the place, and ask if they don't tell you. some are only once a month. might give you a card to bring back each time. some are only 4 times a year! all want you to bring id with you.

good luck. trade you some angel hair pasta for some Quaker Corn Meal!

    right again, oh wise one

    okay...bible study class has begun:

why do you want to be a teacher?

    Ephesians 4: [11] And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

And, among other his free gifts, he gave some apostles - His chief ministers and special witnesses, as having seen him after his resurrection, and received their commission immediately from him.

And same prophets, and some evangelists — A prophet testifies of things to come; an evangelist of things past: and that chiefly by preaching the gospel before or after any of the apostles. All these were extraordinary officers. The ordinary were.

Some pastors — Watching over their several flocks.

And some teachers — Whether of the same or a lower order, to assist them, as occasion might require.

    LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL. she's CRAZY!!

i have some angel hair pasta.. i HATE it!! i let my friend talk me into it, she said it was better for alfredo than fettucine noodles. i prefer linguine-not as thick as fettucine and not thin like spaghetti or super ultra duper ooper thin like angel hair. it's almost like oodles o noodles. and they get all stuck together and you end up eating a ball of noodles @ a time instead of twirling noodles on ur fork properly. speaking of, i have a box of oodles o noodles. it WAS a box of 12, i may have about 10 or 8 left..

love that hymn...can't find the verse!

    Order my steps
    In Your word
    Guide my feet
    In Your word
    Guide my heart
    In Your word
    Show me how to walk
    In Your word
    Show me how to talk
    In Your word

Find me a brand new song to sing
show me how to let your praises in!

hmmm, because first & foremost i LOVE children. and i know everyone can't have an excellent set of parents/guardians to teach them the right things. i've been brought up pretty much in the right way, so i want to pass my knowledge and love on to the generation(s) to come.. you know, cliche stuff. TO MAKE & BE A DIFFERENCE. HEAL THE WORLD. MAKE IT A BETTER PLACE. FOR YOU AND FOR ME AND THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE. TO BE THE TEACHER THAT ACTUALLY CARES ABOUT WHAT THE CHILDREN LEARN & THAT THEY GET IT.

    good answer?

Yuck..sounds like top ramen. those chinese noodles that are 5 for a $1.00! that is just pasta and monsodium glutamate. that would just kill me if you cooked it in the micorwave. I have too many allergies to be broke! :help: I have to be particular (NOT PICKY) about what I eat!

when I was in L.A., I we had a lot of frijoles! black beans, refried beans, beans and more beans. that's all we had for lunch in my Head Start class! and tortillas, tacos, ..it is the Latin version of bread! but no queso por favor! I can't have cheese!

once in awhile, I'll surprise my daughter with a pan of enchilladas!

You people write books after I am in bed!!!! Even though I don't post often, your words are encouraging to me as well. I had tears in my eyes when I read MPK's hymn. Yesterday I went to visit the school where I was a LTS for 4 years. It was so good to see everyone again, but I just really want to be back there. I am starting to get worried about what I am going to do after this LTS job is over. Thanks for the Bible Verses everyone.
I am still struggling with the one "Delight yourself in the Lord..." because two years ago I felt like God gave me that verse and I did everything possible that I thought would delight the Lord. Well, guess what, I still don't have a permanent job. I guess we need to keep claiming those verses even when we don't know how things will work out. I have been reading Joyce Meyers book "Battlefield of the Mind" which is helping me some days, but today I just want to cry.

Those of you going to food pantries. May you be blessed. I used to help with the food pantry at our church (and I'm not that old MPK!!:)) and I met some neat people and made some good friends. I would look forward to seeing them every week. My husband and I have had some difficult times as well, when we didn't know how we were going to put food on the table.

Thanks for all of your support in this forum. I am really hoping (for all of us) that things will turn around soon! I'm scared I won't be able to find ANY job and pay my bills. All I want to do is teach....it's not like I'm asking for a million bucks and 20 cars!!! And, thanks for giving me a giggle about the noodles...I needed a laugh today!!! (BTW...ever try ramen & peanut butter??? Protein meal on a budget!!!) :toofunny:

I think the most important thing that God wants to know through EVERYTHING is, will we trust him? will we trust that he has everything under control? will we trust that there's a strategic plan? will we trust that in the end it all will be alright?

OMG...just shoot me! that is a double whammy MSG attack. monsodium glutamate gives me monster migranes, I blow up like I am 5 months pregnant, and clear out a room in a not so nice way!

hand over the ramen, and peanut butter...and nobody gets hurt!

fry bologna, and make syrup sandwiches, like the rest of us!

oh, and go to farmer's market, and sample every thing. free food sitting on table! that is the only way I got my fruit and vegetable fix during my pregnancy...sigh...almost 24 years ago! what - do I just lose a job every 5-6 years, and nobody told me???

who said you were old? :| I thought I was the only one who actually rode street cars around here.

and used rotorary telephones...that you had to stay home and wait for calls! Back in the day, you had to dial, HU3-2700, the jingle and phone number for carpet guys! I need them now - after I get another check! But Jesus is on my speed dial, or fave five!

to add madness, my girlfriend just found out she failed the pa bar & i don't know what to tell her. i don't know how to comfort her, how to help her, how to tell her it's gonna get better, how to tell her in the end things will be fine. i've prayed for her, and i've given her romans 8:28 but i don't wanna beat her over the head with a lot of bible verse this and spiritual that. sometimes you just wanna cry and be mad. ya know?

i kinda feel this is partly my fault and i may have cursed her because she was being bratty when she first got engaged & started planning her wedding. she wants to have a filet mignon wedding on a chicken wing, peanuts & beer budget. and she was in sort of a rush to have the wedding. she didn't want to wait until she had a job and steady income before she started planning. so pretty much to date her fiance has been contributing to their wedding fund. i told her to wait til she landed a job and she informed me of how all the good dates will be taken and she waited all this time (HS sweethearts) she doesn't wanna any longer. and if her fiance didn't think they'd be able to afford it or knew it would be longer than a year he shouldn't have proposed. yea! she actually said that.. that's when i told her she was being bratty and not appreciative of the fact that she's at least engaged. i know i know she's just excited and wants to be married @ last and every female probably gets antsy and like that when that time in life comes. but what's wrong with being engaged? what's wrong with waiting until you BOTH are stable and can afford it & not on a wish budget or a "i'm gonna have it" budget. you have a ring, you know he's ready, you know he wants to, you know it's gonna happen-you can even set a date but further away so you'll definitely be able to afford it. anyhoo, i think i may have cursed her or something because i said (not to her but just in thinking out loud) that she needs to see that she has what a lot of females want and should be grateful and appreciative of that number 1. and number 2 she should stop trying to have a filet mignon wedding when she doesn't have a job. nothing wrong with dreaming, but put the dream on hold until you can afford it or at least cut some things out so you can afford it. i'm like she is trying to do too much, putting just about the entire wedding savings (that they accumulated) down on the reception hall. and i pretty much said out loud that i hope something happens to where she has to see she's being so bratty. my grandmother said her financial frivolity were going to spill into the marriage and be a root of many problems.

i know i know, i sound like the envious bridesmaid/maid of honor cuz it's not me. but it's really not like that. i'm happy she's going before me. i don't think i'm ready. i've got other things to get used to before that. and i know, every female gets excited and wants to do it all with no idea in mind of a limit or boundary. i understand. i know. and i know i'm gonna get fussed @ b/c of what i said and everything, but you gotta understand i meant it in the most "Lord teach her a lesson/show her her error(s)" kinda way. not to ruin her life!!

uuuuuuuuuggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!! i just meant for her to see what she was doing wrong. i know, you're going to yell b/c i'm not understanding of the stress level she may be experiencing, but please don't beat me up. :(

heard the first job doesn't even have furniture or license yet, so that's why they did not call. other job, interview last week...what's up?? had parent to recommend me, what is left. I did all paperwork back in feb!

guess I just have a white cloud over my head....
