I am lucky and have a great, and I mean great connection. Well, she just called me and asked if I wanted a pre-k position for next year. Of course, I said yes. I will have my formal interview tomorrow.

Problem is I don't know much about pre-k in a school. Where I live we do not have pre k we just have private preschools. This summer I taught special ed pre k. I know the grade I just don't know the details of how pre k is ran in Texas. I'm looking for any suggestions on what I will be asked in the interview, and what a pre k class in Texas looks like.

Sorry that it is a ramble, I'm freaking out right now.

Good luck!I would think that there would be questions about parental involvement, literacy at the pre-k level (like how will you develop phonemic awareness?) and maybe questions about your expectations of preschoolers. That's all I can really think of right now. Good luck!

Mego - PreK is all about reading readiness, number recognition, counting, getting along with others, socialization, centers with substance, and parent visits/communication. PreK is kindergarten just in SLOW mode. It is more about introduction of reading readiness rather than mastery. All the best. Feel free to ask any other questions. ALL THE BEST. Knock their socks off!!!!!:thumb::thumb::thumb:

mego65, the standards for pre-k are called the Texas Pre-K Guidelines, which are just likes TEKS. It's also important to know that our governor, Rick Perry, expanded the qualifications for pre-k to include military dependents.

Mego, do a little research. My style of interviewing is to be honest with your concerns and lack of knowledge, but make it clear you will seek out the answers on your own and ask for help from seasoned peers. I feel that too often people think they need to have all the answers, but being confident and forthcoming is going to speak highly of your character. You can quickly learn to teach a particular grade or subject, you can't quickly gain good character.

Now I'm just waiting. My connection said the principal would call me some time today. I'm busy getting organized so that hopefully I can pack quickly if I get the job.

I was told they want to fill this position quickly and they will call me today for a phone interview. It sounded like I basically have it, that I just had to have a formal interview.

CA, but the job is in TX. So, it is 4, and I still have not heard a word. I've never talked to the principal, just the assistant superintendent, and she said that she would have the principal call me today for a formal interview.

It's entirely possible that the principal wasn't in today, or that something big came up. Summers are funny; it's hard to pin teacher and administrators down.

Well I asked the assistant superintendent if I should be worried, and that I really need to know so I can start preparing for the move. She told me not to worry and to start packing. I just would really like to have the interview and a contract.

Now THAT sounds very promising. I hear that we MAY need a K5 teacher.... It's still speculation at this point though. One of our K5 teachers got another job and they had not decided whether to fill it or not because the numbers are not in yet. Of course, K5 parents are notorious for waiting until the last minute to register. I wonder if you will be teaching at my school? Hmmm.... Small world, it could happen. :)

I hate waiting, too meg. Breathe. Have some chocolate. Research. Breathe.

I applied for a job on June 29th and called to ask when the interviews would start. The HR person said to watch my email the next week when they'd be sending out interview information.

Ok... First, I was going camping that week. It had been planned for weeks. Camping. As in, a tent, the sun, the stars, and campfire. No hair dryer let alone network connection! Ugh.

Second, I did bring my laptop (mostly because I'm a nerdy dork and take it everywhere!). We had to drive around so I could steal bandwidth from some poor person (actually, it seems that Mammoth had free wi-fi because that's where I found it). I checked my email 2 or 3 days and had nothing. I figured they'd decided not to interview me. I was out all day today and came home to the email I was supposed to have received last week! So, I have an interview.

Your principal will call. You'll be fine.

Still nothing. I was told this morning that training starts in 10 days. Umm 10 days, thanks for letting me know. But do I actually have a job?? It sounds like I do, but when they never call to do a phone interview it is hard to tell. I'm so frustrated!!

Keep packing. Wash all your clothes. Clean out your drawers. Make a cake. Do something to stay busy. A watched phone never rings... Isn't that a saying???;)

Well, it is now after 5 and they have tomorrow off. They want me to start training in 10 days, but won't actually say I have the job!! I would like to know if I actually need to spend the 1000 dollars to fly out there for training. I hate this, I really really hate it.
