I would like to do a back to school ocean themed bulletin board, but I need Help! Any suggestions/pictures, would be Excellent!!! Thank you
http://www.mbayaq.org/ - montery bay aquarium web page. I don't know if anything will work for a bb, but I did use this site extensivly when I did an ocean unit. It has live web cams which the kids loved! It also has neat pictures, and lots of info.
"Have a Whale of a Time" this year with a large whale as the main focal point and little fish with the students' names
I know that the company Teacher Created Materials has some gorgeous graphics (bulletin board borders, etc.) of whales, dolphins, ocean themes, etc. What grade is this for?
I do not know what grade you have, but maybe you could set out different beachy materials and allow the students to decorate the BB on the first day of school. Not only is this hands on, but it also allows the students to immediately become part of the classroom and claim ownership to their room. I worked with a prek and k teacher who both did this. They set up long tables covered with newspapers and allowed the students to paint beachy scenes and add sand and shells or just use stencils for the shells. Do not forget gulls and clouds (cotton balls glued to a blue background). hope this helps. The teachers hung it up at lunch time. Although it is messy it is certainly memorable!
I was at a party store yesterday and they had this backdrop that looked like water. It was very pretty and I thought about getting it. They also had one that looked like an aquarium. It was a little busy for a bb, but could be cool. I think they were 14 dollars for several feet.
Read the book Swimmy. Form a large fish, each small fish has a students name and the eye is the teacher.
http://marianneberkes.com/work4.htm This is a link connected with the book Over in the Ocean...i emailed and got BEAUTIFUL pdf bookmarks...you could print them up
I used blue seran wrap in front of windows to give the window an aquarium feel...letting it stick to itself in areas gave the impression of waves. Out librarian used this idea on a bulletin board and it gave a water look.
i cant remember HOW i found out she would send bookmarks...but i just clicked on Email ME! on the left side. I asked her to send them pdf file.
I always get calendars from the World Wildlife Federation and lots of scuba stuff, so I use the calendar for a year, then cut out the pretty pics and put them on my wall (I too have an ocean theme, but at high school level.)
