My kindegarteners need your help, please! I posted on General Ed but ran out of responses, so I'm turning to fellow K teachers! Our gingerbread people ran away! If you would please, will you post and let me know that you have "seen" them somewhere in your area, such as, "I live in South Dakota and saw one climbing Mt. Rushmore." And so on. You get the idea. Thanks for your help! My kids will learn a lot of literacy, math, science, and social studies through this!
Oh no, scholarteacher--I forgot all about this! My son emailed the other day to say that he saw something strange on campus at the University of Guelph when he was visiting on the weekend--"something small and brown, it looked like a gingerbread man, went running across Johnston Green with a squirrel in close pursuit!" He had a busy weekend up here in Canada--when I was watching the Grey Cup Game in Edmonton on TV Sunday night, I swear I saw him in the stands, dressed in green to cheer on the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
I saw a gingerbread man at the Calef's Country Store in Barrington NH on Sunday! I tried to catch him, but he jumped over the pickle barrel, into the bins of penny candy and out the back door. Last time I saw him he was headed to the Christmas Dove Gift shop!
I thought I saw a gingerbread man running out of the coal mine with coal dust on his face! He took off up the mountain on an ATV! Spotted in Southern West Virginia
I think I saw a gingerbread man at the Oklahoma City Stockyards sporting a pair of cowboy boots. He looked as if he had just ate at Cattleman's. He was asking for directions to the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum. He was also talking about taking in a Thunders game.
I saw some gingerbread people last weekend on television! As I was watching the Arkansas Razorbacks, I saw a gingerbread man dressed in a Razorback football uniform! Then, believe it or not, there was a gingerbread girl dressed as a cheerleader! Just when I thought I had seen them all, there was even one marching in the Razorback Band! No doubt they helped the Razorbacks get a win! Whooo Pig Soooie!!
I was on a road trip through Oregon. When I got to Crater Lake, there was a Gingerbread Man taking photos of Crater Lake. He asked me about Mount Saint Helens, and planned to take a trip to see the volcano.
I was driving to school today, and in the canal along side the road, I saw an alligator with a gingerbread man riding on his back. (Everyone knows that alligators don't ingest gingerbread.) They were singing in a loud voice, "Let it snow." I didn't have the heart to tell them that it was 85 degrees outside and there would be no chance of snow. Here in South Florida, we do not experience as much cold as the rest of the United States.
Well, it seems our little gingerbread man found his snow...If you look closely, you can see him getting on the school bus in Fargo, ND.... After school he went sledding on one of the dikes along the Red River of the North. I think you can see him trying to carry one of those big sleds! The Red River of the North is one of the relatively few rivers in the northern hemisphere that flows north. Unless the land is completely flat, rivers run downhill. Generally, in the northern hemisphere, that means they run south, but a relative handful DO run north. This next picture is taken from the top of one of the dikes on the North Dakota side of the river, looking North East into Minnesota. I think I see our little gingerbread man standing on the banks of the river, taking a break after a hard day of sledding!
Our preschoolers say that they saw a Gingerbread Man slide past at recess. It seems that it is now so icy in South Eastern Washington that he can't stop!! Quick send help.....he may.....oh know....he HAS....Fallen into the Columbia River!! Wait...I think I see him crawling out on the bank on the Oregon side of the river. Whew. That must be some good icing he has on! He doesn't even look wet!
When my family was snowshoeing this weekend in Gardiner, MT (near the entrance to Yellowstone Park) we had to do a double take because we saw a strange brown mixed in with a herd of buffalo. We laughed as we watched the Gingerbread Man dart around between all the buffalo hooves! Last we saw him, he was headed up the side of the mountain where we heard rumor a herd of Elk were waiting for him.
I saw a Gingerbread man looking at the Michael Jackson exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame here in Cleveland, Ohio. He seemed very interested in all the information on the singer.
I saw a gingerbread man riding the carousel at Christmastown, Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, VA. When he got off he bought some hot chocolate and then visited Santa at his workshop.
You all are totally awesome! My students are loving it! They will actually walk up to the map and say, "That's Texas" and so on! Thank you so much for your help! I'd love to hear from more people, so keep em comin!
You know, I wasn't there, but I saw the lighting of the christmas tree in Daley Plaza in downtown Chicago... I swear that for just an instant, I caught a glimpse of him... he didn't stay long, I bet he went to go check out the ice skating rink at Navy Pier.
You know, I was walking by one of my favorite restaurants here in Madrid, Spain, and I could swear I saw a gingerbread man digging in to a nice big tortilla española (potato omelette)!
The Gingerbread man from Down Under I did a similar thing with the Gingerbread Man but he just stayed local. The Grade 1s had the fire truck come and he jumped in that, he drove the school bus and he also went to the park to play on the slide. (I have photos that I've copied into Word but don't know how to upload here, if you email, I'll send you). I baked a large Gingerbread Man and froze him (in fact this year's Gingerbread Man is still in the freezer at school, brrrr and it's our last day of the school year today. Mental note: must take him out!!!! If you freeze him, he doesn't crumble and break when you stage photos. I have to say I baked him pretty hard as well. I was going to take him to the beach with a bucket and spade, to the local shopping centre, etc, my imagination started to work overdrive! The first year I did this, I took the Gingerbread Man home with me to stage photos but picking my children up from school, one of them jumped in the car and sat on the Gingerbread Man breaking him!! I baked another and my son was so sick of seeing him in the laundry that he tidied the laundry and put him in the bin (the outside bin). Well I was there, trying carefully to recover my Gingerbread Man but alas, it was too late for him, his arm had broken off and he'd lost 2 legs from the waist down! Never mind, I got out my satay sticks and fixed him. He was even better, because I could now get photos of him sitting down (hence him sat on a park bench and on the slide). To get him back to school after his escapades, the children saw an ambulance at school so, I put him in sick bay (in bed with the cover over him) and took the children to visit the sick Gingerbread. Man
You are welcome! I would love to post more, have family in different states, would it be ok to do something from their parts of the country?
My sister just called. She could have sworn she saw one of your gingerbread men checking out the Coca-Cola museum in Atlanta, GA. I told her I had a friend who had lost a few of the little guys, and she got all excited that she actually found one!
Sitting here watching the SEC championship game in Atlanta, Georiga, I can't believe my eyes! Cam Newton (the quaterback for the Auburn Tigers) just pulled a gingerbread man out of his pocket to take a bite. Those little guys must be what gives Cam his superhero powers! Luckily the little guy gotta away before Cam bit off too much. The little gingerbread man said he was headed south to Gainesville, Florida to visit the home of the Florida Gators at the University of Florida.
Hey, Dr.! How are things with you? Finish that Dr. thing yet! Thanks for the info! One thing is for sure, our little ginger people sure do love football!
So THAT was what I saw running across the yard here in Nigeria, West Africa!! He scared up a big flock of cattle egrets, and I saw a Fulani boy take up the chase.
It was reported on the local news last night that a gingerbread man was filling in for the conductor on the old steam engine train at Edaville Railroad in Carver, MA. Many children were delighted to see this when they embarked on the train yesterday!
California is one of the great enjoyable city for surfboard, whenever they ask me what is the best place for SKI I suggest him of California.
I think we saw your gingerbread running across the yard while we were putting out our Christmas lights here in Michigan!!! He was hard to see because everything is brown colored since we don't have any snow yet!!!
I saw your gingerbread man at the top of Big Brutus (a retired mining shovel) in southeast Kansas! If you look closely at this photo, you can see him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Brutus_2006-07-02_2244.jpg
My students and I are loving this! You guys are great! They are learning so much geography, and the other teachers are envious of our bulletin board with all our sightings! Thanks, everyone! We would still love to hear from more!
I saw your gingerbread man running down Market Street in Frederick, MD (birthplace of Francis Scott Key). He was singing The Star-Spangled Banner!!!!
In June, Nik Wallenda was the first person to walk on a high wire across The Niagara Falls, Nik went from NY to Canada. Now your gingerbread man is trying. He started in NY but had trouble entering Canada-no picture passport!!!
Oh my gosh! IT was him! I saw him there too! Wearing very cool sunglasses too, and a white sequined glove. Just like Michael Jackson! Another visitor overheard him saying he was going to a Browns game next...
The gingerbread man was spotted making a snowman in southern Minnesota with some kids, who were having a snowday! When they were done and tried to catch them, he ran away and they couldn't see him through the blizzard!
The Gingerbread man was seen in Weest Texas. Unfortunately the wind was blowing so hard that he didn't get a chance to stop and say hello to my class. We waved to him as he blew across the sky. Maybe next year he can stop in and say hello.
TX mom... I think he blew up this way because it was windy...but he jumping from snowflake to snowflake!!!
