So, I'm reading "The American Wei" from my Open Court Unit and it's so difficult. In it, Kindergartner's have to know what "Naturalization" means. Could you give me the proper syllables for the word as well as any feedback positive/negative that you've had when you read the book to your class?

    Thanks!

    Is it like this: "Na-tu-ra-li-za-tion?"

    Nat- u-ra-li-za-tion, I think?

I taught OCR and kindergarten, but why don't I remember that story? Weird.

I'd say, Na-tu-ral-i-za-tion. Seems like a tough one for kinders.

The dictionary lists naturalize as nat·u·ral·ize

So, naturalization would then be nat.u.ral.i.za.tion

I moved the z with the a because the I needs to make the long i sound, so it must be an open syllable.

They have to know what naturalization means?

That means they have to know what a citizen is.

That means they have to have a basic understanding of the Constitution and the democratic process and the different stages of immigration.

Otherwise, if you just tell them "Naturalization is when an immigrant becomes a citizen" it meas as much as saying sillybop is when ooga ooga becomes floompa.
