    Hi All,

I have been substitute teaching for a little under three years. Unfortunately, my placement file only contains letters of recommendation from my student teaching supervisor, principal, and cooperating teacher. I am probably answering my own question here, but how recent should these be? I might also add that I have had a couple long term positions where I have not yet asked for a letter of recommendation from the principal and plan to do so. However, I fear that my other letters won't be as credible? Should I ask for new ones? Or perhaps to re-date the older ones? Any ideas?

    Thanks!

I am also going into my 3rd year subbing, although I've been a permanent sub in the same building. My letters in my portfolio are all from student teaching (no one has looked at those, though), but I recently made a whole new reference sheet with my principal and teachers from my building because I knew my others were outdated.

Make sure your letters of recommendation are less than a year old--some districts will accept 2 years old.

My placement file is from 2007 so I don't send it out anymore. I just send letters that are more current and my transcripts myself. I wouldn't send letters that are more than 2 years old.
