Hi, I need some help. I will be teaching tutorial third grade classes on the weekend. I would like to know does anyone has any fun activities so that the students can understand place value and properties of addition.

When I said place value I meant the student demonstrating their knowledge of identifying thousands, hundreds, tens and ones.

    Thank you in advance!

Just a small thing, but you can make a game out of the review. Draw up some slashes and commas as high as you want to go. __,___ ___ ___Review the specific places and write them underneath the slashes. Then start having them shout out the place as you point to it. Then erase the words underneath one at a time while they still are having to shout out until there are no more words.

I believe there is some great activities for place value on NCTM's Illuminations website. I just recently discovered all the great lessons and activities there! Check it out! I've loved searching their database for amazing lessons!
