I always thought those were a cool idea, but alas, our district has a required "portfolio" folder we must use. How dull!
We use them. In fact, they will prove quite handy when it is time for the kids to schlepp all their stuff home! My kids decorated them and got an art grade out of it They just used colors and drew everything they could think of that represented them and their personalities. The boxes really looked great when they were done -- all very individualized.
Go to CiCi's or another charitable pizza place. Ask them for unused pizza boxes. My kids will decorate them in tear paper art to look like themselves, putting their faces right in the center. I put all their cool projects in there along with some writing. The only thing I am worried about is that the boxes are really big and I don't want my kids to get bored or use giant pieces of torn paper. I was wondering how other people decorate them. Maybe I could have them do a border around it in a solid color first to take up some of the space. Their faces are really cute in tear paper.
Missy 99, So are they just coloring right around the pizza place's name or do you have them cover the box with plain paper? See we put the face in the middle but they still have to tear art all around their faces. Maybe it won't be a problem. I just can't stand doing it myself.
I like this idea... Do you start the pizza boxes at the beginning of the school year and store them in your classroom? And how on earth do you have room to store all those? Or, do you collect artifacts and at the end of the year, do the pizza boxes for displaying?
I started out the year doing these, and just struggle with doing a portfolio separate from what is required by our district. I found that those wire cubes they have in the dorm section of stores like Target worked well for storing them: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/prod...00000003260370&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=5005199
Yes, we get the pizza boxes now and then we will start tear art on Friday. School ends on Thursday. They really are great. I have my son's from first grade. I have used a lot of his things as samples for projects in my class since it is the same school and similar projects.
Dang!----Jealous. Ours have a lot of red on them. I don't think coloring on them would look right. Okay I will just go with my tear art. I'll just put on a smile on my face and pretend I love it. Hopefully my kids don't get sick of it.
I have never seen the idea. I am thinking that I can use it at the beginning of the year for students to decorate with their personalities and then use it as my book boxes for the Daily 5.
I really liked this idea, will also ask my students to decorate their ones. They will surely have fun!
My kids started yesterday. They are looking great but will take a while. I have the children work on the floor since the boxes take up the top of the desk.
