Has anyone gotten an email like this from Pinterest? I feel like I did something wrong, even though they say it was not.

"This is to let you know that we removed one (or more) of your Pins as a result of a copyright complaint. The complaint was not directed against you or your Pin. It was directed against another user who Pinned or re-Pinned the same content from the following address:

    http://ny-image3.etsy.com/il_fullxfull.265762311.jpg

While many copyright owners are happy to have their content Pinned on Pinterest, we recognize that some do not want their content to appear on Pinterest. Where, as here, a copyright owner notifies us that they want their content removed under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA"), it is our policy to remove the allegedly infringing Pin, as well as all other Pins that contain the same content if the copyright owners so choses.

Again, this complaint was not directed at you, or anything you did. We just thought you'd like to know why we removed your Pin.

Happy Pinning and thanks again for using Pinterest.

    The Pinterest Team"

Like they said, you didn't do anything wrong. This is the result of a blog or website owner sending a copyright notice to Pinterest, telling them to remove all pins containing their content. They are protecting themselves legally by removing any pins linking to those sites. Most blogs/sites love having their stuff pinned because it increases their exposure. Don't worry about it.

I thought it was adorable too! That's why I repinned it! I know copyright is a huge issue, but sheesh. You'd think that would be worse PR to have your stuff removed...

I got the same email a year or so ago. I'm surprised people don't want their stuff pinned, but I also know several blogs have crashed due to traffic from pins. If you aren't advertising or are small scale, paying for extra bandwidth might not be worth it.

I wonder if pinning the sites containing the images rather than direct links to images would prevent this kind of thing because the image owner is receiving credit.

I've never got that email. Bummer, though!

I understand wanting credit for your work. I also understand that in many cases the photographer's watermark is cropped and the image can be altered...and I'd be upset by that.

    Yeah, that's true...

On another slap-hands note...I apparently have been banned from posting videos to Facebook. From any device. One night, a group of my awesome friends were hanging out in one of our garages, and got a wacky idea to do the Harlem Shake. My daughter has a HS app, so we created the best video ever. I of course posted it to FB, and shortly thereafter got a nasty-gram from FB saying I violated copyright. I honestly did not mean to, I thought if it was an app and it had an option to post to FB, well, then...(ignorance, it's a beautiful thing).

Well, ever since then, if I try to upload a video, I only get an error message. Doesn't matter if it's my phone or computer. Anyone have this happen?

I haven't had anything removed, but I get so many errors uploading to Facebook. I'd try to email whatever kind of support/customer service they have. They might be able to help.

I didn't notice the Christmas lights in the OP because I only glanced at the image. I was very confused for a second.

I don't know!! And I don't even know if it's just an error or I'm banned. But I posted videos all the time prior to that, and now I always get an error.

Search on YouTube for any song and you'll find a million crappy homemade videos using the song. I buy the song and use it for a school project and it's deleted within twenty-four hours. Always.

Ooh, that's a cute idea! Reminds of a pin I've been meaning to get forever - solar string lights in a lantern for outside. Hmm.

I think some artisans on etsy are concerned about people "stealing" their original ideas and making their own jar chandeliers instead of buying the item from them.

Sounds like pinterest was just complying with the law, but did not want you to feel bad and shy away from using Pinterest in the future.

when you buy the song, you aren't buying a public-use license, just the song for you to listen to personally.

This is a big issue with photographers that make slideshows of their photos. I came this.close to buying the usage license for one song that I thought I would use repeatedly. The song on iTunes cost .99. The license cost $350.00. It would have given me permission to in essence resell the song in a video and/or show a video with the song playing to other people.

I have been using that line after everything...Like getting stuck in the pouring rain (ain´t nobody got time for that), having to wait in line at the grocery store (ain´t nobody got time for that), waiting for one of my shows to come on (ain´t nobody got time for that).

I know. It's just interesting (as in annoying) that my videos were flagged while a thousand twelve-year-olds' would not be. Obviously I don't try anymore. Got to be all legal, you know. ;)

I've gotten a few of the Pinterest e-mails.

And I agree with Mary-if it was a link to an Etsy sale page, maybe that would be better. But most pins are created because people want to make those items. Obviously Etsy sellers wouldn't like that.

I also got a Facebook video ban. I made a six month montage of Henry clips and bought a Taylor Swift song from iTunes for the background. It was awesome but they took it down. Boo hoo. I thought because Ibought the song and it was on my private page for just friends and family it would be ok. It was not.
