    Hi,
I'm after picture book ideas for 9-10 year olds (preferably not too long) that lend themselves to reading comprehension strategies (I.e. From first steps resource) or have moral/messages or good discussion points. Any ideas? :)

The Butter Battle Book by Dr. Seuss
Thank you Mr. Falker by Patricia Polacco
The Big Orange Splot by Daniel Pinkwater

All have great lessons/morals with good discussion points. Also, they are quite entertaining.

Patricia Polacco in general has great books. I also like using The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. Brave Irene by William Steig, and anything by Chris Van Allsburg. Adding to The Butter Battle Book, the Lorax by Dr. Seuss is another book with really good discussion points.

PS- lots of people have recommended Patricia Polacco books. Her books are great, but they are VERY Long. Most picture books appropriate for the upper elementary grades get very wordy and long. We read them over multiple days with my students.
