I'm a bit confused. On our report card we give separate grades for reading, language and spelling. The curriculum phonics and language tests are combined. They include writing the sounds, blends, and special sounds the teacher says, spelling some of that weeks spelling words and an oral reading test (reading 5 words). They do have a language seatwork paper every day but according to the curriculum it's not graded.
Last year I used the phonics/lang. tests as part of their reading grade and for lang. grade had them write sentences using spelling words. I would like to have more language for grades.
What do you do? Suggestions please? Thanks!

We have a reading/vocabulary test weekly and I combine that with ar tests and class performance for reading. We have a weekly spelling test, too. For language I use their journals along with review worksheets we call flashbacks that checks them on using capitals and ending marks and has them identify nouns, verbs, and adjectives. I hope that helps to clarify. :)
