I like to do an activity that is similar to part of the DRA for segmentation. I made a little paper with 3 or 4 boxes in them (going across the page horizontally). Then with counters, poker chips, cereal, candy, etc. give the children a word and ask them to slide one manipulative for each sound they hear in the word.

We use "Michael Heggerty's Phonemic Awareness" We have been using it for two years now. I love it. It is set up with lessons everyday for all of the phonemic awareness skills. It would take anywhere from 10 minutes to do it all to about 25 minutes a day. I teach kindergarten so at first it takes awhile for them to catch on, but after awhile we go through it pretty fast.

The skills it goes over are:
    Letter naming
    Rhyming
    onset fluency
    blending
    Identifying final and medial sounds
    segmenting
    substituting
    adding phonemes
    deleting phonemes
    Language awareness

I know there is a web site but not sure what it is. You may be able to Google it.

Too funny! I was just about to suggest Michael Haggerty. His material is the best!
