i've decided that my personal goal for this year is to find a way to be and stay positive. i work in a pretty difficult school that i love, but some days...correction...most days i'm a crab. i hate that! so this year...i'm going to find ways to be positive...but to stay that way as well. your advice and input would be greatly appreciated about this as i'm sure we've all experienced times when it is hard to do.

help me make this a great year...PLEASE!!!

Start by making a list of what frustrates you / makes you crabby and then try to find a solution or a positive spin to each. Good luck!

Find one thing each day that makes you happy, even if it's little (Johnny smiled when he walked in, Sara said g'morning, all the kids handed in their hwk...) and write it down. Then look back at it when you start to feel down and remember WHY that made you happy (Johnny never smiles, Sara is usually a grouch...). Keep smiling :)

When I get crabby, I think to myself, "The kids deserve a happy teacher. If I'm crabby, they will be crabby too. And that will only make things worse." I kind of guilt myself into putting a happy face on. But, I don't want my kids to think they have a cranky teacher, so it works!

I would like to implement Morning Meetings and have more writing conferences with my students!

To find happiness outside of the classroom - as in, less time spent at school and more time spent enjoying myself in other ways!

    Time management

    Assessment

    BE HAPPY!

I desire to feel well-rested and energized daily. The rest of it will fall into place from there.

organization is the key and that is my goal for the year as it was last year. I did fine thru Dec, but it was back to my old self. I will make it all the way through this year.

I was reading in another post (can't remember where) about morale builders. I'm going to try and find something positive about each teacher I work with and write an anonomous note to put in their mailbox. Hopefully, it'll be a pick me up for both of us!

Aw! That is so great! I love that idea! I sure think it is one I will use when I have my own classroom! How sweet!

I want to remain more positive, and avoid negativity. I want to focus on my class, and less on what is going on around the building. I want to NOT worry about the expectations that are laid on the grade level, and allow my team mates to take on some of that responsibility.

Get organized! (I think I say that every year ).

I'm going to stay positive too. I don't know what the key to that is but I'm going to try to steer conversations with other teachers to topics outside of school (kids, pets, hobbies) instead of complaining about what's happening inside the school.

wow, I just stumbled across this. So how did my year measure up to my goals? I did a LOT more outside of school. I organized movie nights, knitting classes, get togethers - it was great! The downside is that I didn't come in on the weekends or do all that extra planning like I used to. I feel that my lessons were good but I didn't bond as much with the students as I would have liked.

Time management - awesome. Definately improved on that one.

Assessment - hmmm.....that's still an area I'd like to improve upon.

Was I happy? Most of the time! A lot more than the year before - but I also had a phenomenal class this time around!
