about me! I have been at my new school for about a month now and in the past 2 weeks I have been stopped by 3 different people telling me about how everyone is saying how well my class seems to be doing. It was a total distaster before I got here but we are slowly shaping up. I was just flabbergasted that so many people think I am doing a good job and were nice enough to say something to me. It's so great to hear. I just had to share
Yay! Not to hijack, but I'm experiencing the same thing! I am a younger teacher, so at this new school, parents think I'm a first year teacher because it's my first year THERE. Many pretty much assumed I was going to suck and I couldn't possibly be any good at my job (the previous teacher was an icon, there for 20 years w/ an entirely different curriculum). Finally, they are seeing all the positives-what students are doing, how they feel, etc. It's a great feeling!
Such good news! No need to be embarrassed about hearing positive comments. Hopefully some of these are trickling to the administration.
Awesome!!! By the way, I went through the same thing. I was 22 (22!!!!!) in my first year of teaching, and granted, I am still very young (almost 30). From the get-go, I didn't know what people were expecting. I remember receiving a Teacher of the Month award one month in where I had to be interviewed, and people praised me for doing different things with my class (different kinds of science experiments and focusing on performing arts early on). And after I brought my class to St. Augustine, people were just downright flabbergasted a first-year teacher brought her 18 students and probably 8-10 adults across the state on a charter bus, planning a complex field trip. Feel honored and excited... you'll continue to grow and gain so much respect as you work at your school!
I knew you guys would understand It's not something I would post on Facebook or anything but I had to tell someone! It's just a nice feeling to be appreciated. Something I didn't get at all at my old school.
That's great! I don't think they have a teacher of the month at this school but they do have some sort of recognition type awards. I hope to get one some day.
