Well, of course you're still antsy - but not about the sections you know you passed, right?

Official score reports convey more information than unofficial score reports do. The most useful information, in my view, comes under the heading of "Performance Indicators" or something like that phrase: not just whether one passed the test or subtest but also how one did in each of the domains, or in some cases on each of the written tasks. Performance indicators seem to be determined after the scorers do their thing: someone goes through and tries to figure out why the scorers chose to give THIS score to THAT constructed response. The feedback can be useful for the test taker who needs to retake the test, subtest, or section.

I am very "ANTSY" about the sections, I passed. Because I want the official scores. I am not going to be satisfied until I receive the official scores. Additionally, what really makes me nervous is.....By March, I have to have each of subtest scores in to my school of education chair. The results take forever to come in; so that makes me more nervous. Furthermore, I didn't know the FTCE-GKT gives all that information that would be interesting to read.

"Forever" is relative - and of course it feels longer when one is waiting for one's own results. (Hugs, again and still.) If your test was revised for testing year 2014-15 - the testing year runs from September to August, mostly, for all teacher tests - then results for test dates from September to November may indeed be delayed (more hugs), but things should speed up after that.

What do you need to take other than GK?

After I take the GK, I will be taking the Elementary Education K-6, Mathematics 6-12 and Science 6-12. I want all those certifications. Also, I have to take the Professional Educators Exam.

Hey Kailey, I know you posted this discussion years ago. But, today I am faced with a worse scenario. I have taken the reading part four times. The last time I took it was this morning. I want to successfully overcome this nightmare so I decided to reach out to others. I would love for you to let me know what worked for you or if you know anyone that tutors for this part of the GKT.
    Thank, Khrystal

Any luck finding a tutor. I am dealing with this situation as well. I just took the GKT for the fourth time this morning and did not pass it once again. This is so depressing. So much time, money, and effort put into this portion of the test and still not successfully completing it. Please reach out.

I have a tutor lined up already, even before taking the reading section. You need to have a tutor. All the money you spent towards the tests could have been put towards the tutor:whistle:

Hi everyone so I went in and took my test and passed all the sub test besides the English portion. I am rather shocked since English is my best subject (or so I thought). I mostly studied for the math portion for the exam and actually gave up half way through the test and I still passed! I thought the English part was so easy and was flabbergasted when I got an not pass score :( Im super bummed and can't even start my bachelors program until I pass all sections. Any words of advice? If you have and questions feel free to message me.

You said you gave up half way on the GKT Math. Did you actually only answered 22 questions and got them all right to pass?

I answered each question. But it was so hard that nearly half of my answers were guesses. I was surprised that I passed the math portion. I still do not understand how I failed the English portion. I took many practice tests and got a great score on the english portion. I am still upset but I will try again in 30 days. I had to file an appeal with my school in hopes they accept me for my g.p.a. The reading portion was not too difficult and they extended the time to 55 minutes which really makes a difference. I only had one minute left to review my answers. The math portion is not basic math. Alot of word problems, linear equations, proportions, and statistics etc.

I heard there is one version of the math that has 30 word problems, but other than that I hear there are 5-7 on the test. You had to have stronger math skills than me for you to guess and pass?

I have taken the GKT three times now, and have passed the math, reading and essay section. I still have yet to pass the English portion, is there anyone who can give me a name of a tutor or a book that will help me in the Grammar section??

    New teac
I know you posted this a while ago and they revised the gkt reading in 2014 but i am trying to find the best strategy for answering the questions. I was told two thongs. 1. Read the.passage and while reading the passage write key info under each paragraph so when you go back to the question you can answer with the information you gathered.
Someone else said read the passage the read the questiion then look for the answer and do this with each question that goes with the passage.
I have 110 min to work through it. What is your advice?

I need to find an language arts book to practice for the general knowledge ELA section.
I also need to know the best strategy for taking the.reading section?
I was told to go to each passages questions and briefly write down the questions then go back to the passage to find the answer. How can you do this with questions having to do with tone and main idea?
    Help

I need help passing the English language arts section of the Florida general knowledge exam. I failed it twice. And I am embarrassed and feeling down about it. I need a study plan to pass it next time. Has anyone used the website FTCE Prep site? they sell practice exams. I am not sure if their tests will match the rigor of the actual tests.

I took the GTK in May and passed all four sections. I've been out of school for 25 years! I used the latest REA general knowledge book and have to say it was spot on. I also went to the library and used my ipad to scan the practice tests in the back of previous years versions. Take the practice test and then review the sections you get wrong. It worked for me. I haven't used the cliff notes, but also bought an older xamonline version and it was garbage compared to the new REA book. Good luck!

I am using the rea book also, did you find the reading passages to be of the same difficulty level as the actual exam? Were the type of questions the same as the actual exam?
What about the els, was it the same as the actual exam and is there anything i should be aware of on the exam?

    HISTORY
I found the reading part very difficult. WIth that being said, I have a math brain and english has always been my weakest subject. I found the questions to be similar style to the book, but the passages more difficult. So overall I felt the reading part was more difficult than the study guides. But I did pass and used the REA book exclusively to study...newest book and older version tests. I had the luck to be volunteering in a HS classroom where they were reviewing reading for the FCAT. That helped me a lot...maybe there is a teacher in your district that could sit with you and go over strategy?

ELA was very similar. If you have a good foundation of spelling, grammar etc you should be fine.

I took the practice test in the cliff notes amd scored 27 correct ( minimum allowed to pass) and the rea ( found to be harder) practice test , in which i scored 27 correct again, but went 23 min of the allotted time. How did you study and were you given a question from each skill?

All I can say is take as many practice exams as possible to get use to pace and use the strategies listed in the REA book. The only other advice is to seek out a reading teacher who can help you. Reading is not my strength, so I'm shocked I passed the first go around.

Along with the competency guideline and the Cliffnotes GKT book please use "the Blue Book of Grammer and Punctuation" as well as "Passage to Basic English"

I also just passed the reading, math, and English sections today on my first try. All I used was the CliffsNotes book from Amazon and one additional practice math test I found online. The test was harder than expected but the book is good practice as long as review everything you get wrong and understand why. I even ran out of time on the reading and still passed! I have never been good at math but you have so much time that it's okay. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions or need help!

Hm, it'S hard to say because I was so worried about the test I didn't take notice of how many of each type. But there were a lot of word problems so definitely could have been.
