I'm a new teacher who was recently hired for a fifth grade "part time" inclusion class. It was explained to me that I would have about 8 special education students in my class and that a special education teacher would be in the room with me part time -- approximately 3 days a week for reading and math. Everything is so new to me right now -- I was hoping that I could gain some feedback from more experienced teachers regarding this type of set-up. How should I begin preparing myself to teach special needs students? How should I modify my lessons? I know that the sepcial ed teacher will be helping me to plan but that some of it is going to fall on me solely. What about behavior management -- should I begin preparing modifications for my special needs kids in terms of rules and procedures? I really appreciate any help and advice!!!
