TouchMath is a wonderful program when used well--it is VERY easy to create a prompt-dependent child with it though, so make sure you stay aware of abilities and know when to transition to more complex skills. :D

[I NEVER quit "harping" at my parents until I get results. Don't give up.]

    Grammy Teacher, I like you!
And you're right. One gift that age has given me is that I feel a certain freedom to tell parents what needs to be done at home. And they listen.
When I was a younger teacher I wanted everyone to like me and felt like it wasn't my place to give advice. Well, friends, we are the experts on children. Who better to give advice?

    Crystal,

Thanks for the math idea, Touch Math. I have heard about it but haven't looked into it as I also had been told about prompt dependency....math sure is a tricky one! We have been using his pocket chart a lot lately as well as worksheets, flashcards, pennies/bears/bingo chips/beans as counters. He is starting to get it though! Thanks again

I really like touch math... if you use the program as it's designed, the prompts (visual touchpoints) ARE faded as you advance... I find myself actually USING the touchpoints NOW when I have to add a column of numbers. ;)
