I just got home. They were from 7-9.

I requested 4 parents (2 D's, 2 F's on progress grades.) I saw one of the F's, both D's, and 2 other parents. The last F sent an email saying he couldn't make it.

I'm high school; I teach over 400 kids this year.

15 minutes a kid would be a bit difficult.

Wow, it looks like most of you have yours after school. The kids don't have school tomorrow; instead, we do our conferences and we also hand out report cards then as well, except since we have gone online, we just show them the grades on our computers. We will not actually hand out any report cards because parents have access online.

Today-the kids had an 11:30 release day and teachers had to stay until 8:00pm. However, I did a lot of my conferences earlier this week-before school, during specials, and after school each day-so I could have some free time to work in my room.

Ours aren't until the week of Thanksgiving.

Monday 4-7:30 (The kids have a full day)
    Tuesday 1-4 and 5-7:30
Then everyone's off the rest of the week for the holiday.

The kids go a full day on Monday, and it's the only day they come... they combine 2 half-days, so they don't come at all on Tuesday and teachers don't have to be in until conference time.

My daughters' elementary has them on 4 different days. They started last week, and are once a week for the next 4 weeks.

The killer, of course, is that school dismisses at 10:45 am on those days. (Nope, not a typo. School starts at 8:30 and dismisses 135 minutes later.) Two of the conference sessions go from 1-4, and the other 2 go from 6-8.

Note to the Superintendent: You want standardized scores to go up??? Here's a wild idea: Try HAVING SCHOOL!!!

As I mentioned, our first set was last night. We also have them right after Christmas, after February break, and after Easter.

We will have our 1st quarter conferences on November 12, with report cards going home the previous day. Ours are 20 minutes, starting at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 3:00. All our students have the day off. We're free to schedule outside of the actual conference day, so quite a few teachers get them all done before and then have a 3 day weekend.

    wow....4 conferences a year...We have them twice a year and that's it.

It took a LOT of convincing for our conferences to move from the cafeteria...yes, that's right, sitting on hard benches in the cafeteria under crappy lights for hours to our classrooms.

Call me crazy but my students did GREAT on their tests this week and we were out early every day but today (Friday) at 1pm. hmmmm I think our school day is too long in my opinion! 830-325 Their behavior was pretty wonderful too! My kids CHECK OUT at 1:30 every day....

We have them 4 times a year as well. My first one will be in two weeks and we hand out report cards as well. I wish that my school would come and join 2010 and use computerized report cards instead of the old-fashioned paper/pen!! UGH!

That sounds like an incredibly long school day! Our late bell rings at 7:55, and our day (for elementary-we have kinder through high school at our school), and kids are dismissed at 2:00. I could not imagine teaching until 3:25 (well, I technically do, but it's tutoring, so just one-on-one for that last hour, and it's completely my choice). We also go until July (3 we have 3 weeks for X-mas, and 2 weeks for Easter, with other short holidays thrown in here and there).

Our conferences are the first week of November, on a Thursday and Friday. We teach on Thursday from 7:45 to 12:30, then conferences are from 1:00 until 8:00.( I always try to be done by 7), and the from 8 until 11 on Friday.
We then get Friday afternoon "off" to compensate for the late day Thursday... but it's a long day! I'm usually in the building by 6:45a.m. to set up for the day.

Officially, they are Wednesday evening and Thursday (the kids have off on Thursday). I am starting mine on Monday though, so I only will have a few on Thursday.

We have ours on Wed. and Thurs. We stay after late on Wed. for night conferences, then have an early release the next day for day conferences.

Oh my goodness! I have to take my nap by 4ish in the afternoon, so I just can't imagine how you manage such a long day. Thank goodness for the Friday you get off.

    Conferences

A few years ago my district did away with mandatory parent conferences days. I am so glad. Now I schedule them as needed, usually right after midterms. I have a month to schedule parents. Of my 17 students, 9 parents showed up.
