I got a message on FB tonight that shocked me. It was from the parent of a sweet boy who I taught in second grade in 1997. I remember him and his mother very well. He had come in with very few reading skills and I was happy to offer to work with him after school. I hadn't heard from the family in all these years as he left our school a year or so after I taught him. This is just part of the message I received today after learning that he had just graduated from law school with honors. It all started with you! Thanks for teaching him to read! He's put in a lot of hard work to become an attorney, graduated with honors from college and law school. But the journey started with you. He got a great job at Citibank. My little boy and your young student has been named ........ for ........ in Tampa. I'm so proud of him. Thanks to you he has gotten where he is today. He's an avid reader and very bright. But best of all he's kind generous and caring. Big hugs and a bigger thank you! How touching and humbling. Never doubt what an impact you can make on an individual child as you go about your work.
