I teach near a joint military base (air/army). My little school started out 10 years ago as a k-5 with 8 classrooms and a little library. In 10 years, we've added on two wings to the building and had to change to a k-3 school. We have 7 sessions of kinder and first and 6 of 2nd and 3rd.
I just read on the local news website that they are expecting 5700 soldiers in the next 4 years bringing over 8000 family members with....

Holy moly! Where will we put them all???

The base closures all over the country have brought many military families into our area, also. Some of our schools look like portable cities.

Our city doesn't allow portables....they're going to have to build a new school!

We are expecting 4700 new jobs due to BRAC in my small city. We have received some already, but many more are to come before next year. Meanwhile, we are busy consolidating schools because of low enrollment in the lower income areas and building new schools in the overpopulated areas. I think the people in charge here have lost their minds!
