Hello! We have finally agrees upon a name for our beloved son, who is set to come into the world in mid-to-late February! We have decided on Liam James. James is my DH's name and we just both love the name Liam! Yesterday I sat through a 3-hour glucose tolerance test to see if I am a gestational diabetic. I should have the results by Monday at the latest. As I am just 26 weeks along, if the tets is positive it's early enough to control it with diet and possible blood tests done at home. Not too keen on the idea of pricking my finger several times a day, but we'l see what happens. AND the coolest thing ever happend last night... James felt Liam KICK from the outside. He was so happy...! Thanks again to all prayers and thoughts!
CONGRATS!!! Naming is one of the harder decisions... we had lists & picked out the name once we saw baby!!! Keep taking it easy!!! So happy baby is kicking & daddy could feel as well!!!
I hope you get great news on Monday. My friend found out that she had gestational diabetes after she passed out while driving and had a pretty bad car accident (baby was fine). She's pregnant again and happily pricks her finger throughout the day.
Love the name, Liam!!! We had a hard time picking out a boys name. We never could agree, luckily we had our girls name picked out pretty quickly...and we had a girl! Congrats and good luck on that test!
What do you mean about an unhappy placenta? Something important while pregnant is to take a walk everyday, which gets harder as you go along. This can really help with the blood sugar issue. I would also recommend the book Childbirth Without Fear. This book made such a huge difference in my pregnancy and delivery. A lot of the book speaks to diet during pregnancy, and this doctor worked with very poor women. He brought the incidence of preeclampsia waaaay down, which is significant because his practice was with the poor who didn't have the best nutrition. He taught them how to eat properly on a low budget. He also gave a lot of fantastic information that eases the birth process, teaching how to eliminate fear and tension so the birth is easier. Fantastic book! I would send you my copy but I am saving it for my DD.
I love the name, too. I know a young gal with a 2 year old named Liam. My sister had gestational diabetes and I have diabetes type 2. The finger pricking isn't as bad as the glucose tolerance test. Ugh. I have to inject 4 times a day and it really has gotten old, but it isn't awful. So great that hubby got to feel that kick.
Supposedly the main issue with gestational diabetes is how your placenta deals with the insulin, thus unhappy placenta. Thank you all for liking our name!
Congrats! I had GD twice. It stinks, but I was soooo thankful that there was an end point-my BIL has diabetes, and I kept thinking how he has to live with it for the rest of his life. THAT would stink-I feel for you Upsadaisy!
Oh, and the diet actually made me lose weight while pregnant. It is a very good diet, if only I would keep up with it while not pregnant!
Hi! I plan to see the gestational nutritional counselor on Tuesday... I might run some questions by you via PM afterward if that is OK? Throught the whole pregnancy I have lost 6 lbs. due to the fact that I was an overweight gal to begin with. I am anxious to learn how to best eat to help my baby. I know it will require a combination of certain food groups... like a certain amount of proteins with a certain amount of carbs, etc. Thanks to all for your support and encouragement!
I had gestational diabetes with both my pregnancies, but was able to control is easily with diet. Both babies were healthy, with no complications. (Love the name, by the way!)
Sure, no problem Star! I would get frustrated every now and then, but like most things, looking back it wasn't too bad. With my second daughter, I was very close to needing insulin injections, but luckily gave birth instead!
