As I keep mentioning, I'm facing some health issues. I found out on Monday night that I'll need radiation. As a result, I was in a foul mood and begged off our school Christmas party. I dropped a note to the principal (since I had already RSVP'd) and let him know that I wasn't coming, and why. Today I ran into him. He was, as always, incredibly kind, asking about my health, and reminding me that my health came first. Then he said: "From what I understand, radiation isn't so bad. In fact, Ann had it." me: "Ann P??" who had breast cancer about 10 years ago. him: "No, Ann M." OOPS. Ann M DIED of cancer last year. It was one of those moments when I could just see-- he wanted to grab those words back as soon as he uttered them. But there was nothing I could say to help.. so he just went on and mentioned another member still on the faculty who also had radiation. My heart went out to him... he was trying so desperately to make me feel better (and he knows that I even cry at denture commercials, so that's always a minefield with me.) But it WAS funny!
