Yay?!? for "no power" days.. .San Diego's answer to a snow day. Any other San Diegans enjoying an impromptu 3 day weekend due to the massive blackout we had last night?
Well at least ours doesn't have any damage associated with it.. just a long (12 hours for us, less for some) stretch without power.
Trying to get the energy to clean out the refrigerator and go shopping. It was actually a nice relaxing evening with the family - cooked outside and sat under camping lanterns. We are pretty well prepared but I can't say that for the rest of the block. We gave out food and candles to some. It is always a good reminder to be prepared to have food, water, lights, etc. for 3 days in case of emergencies. We have a lot more but some people didn't even have a candle or a flashlight. Crazy! The whole county was out, Orange County and parts of Arizona. Traffic was a nightmare.
yup Traffic was insane. I think everything in our freezer is ok, judging by the fact the ice cream didn't melt.. lol. We only lost a few things in the fridge.. everything else we either ate or was no good anyway. our Vons lost their entire selection of meats.. so dinner tonight should be interesting.
No power outagers in my area, but I do love visiting San Diego for the day/weekend getaway every several months! I love the Fashion Valley Mall!
Are you having to boil your water? I have a friend in Tierrasanta that said she was under a boil water order.
I was not under boil water as I am in the northern part of the county. the boil water order was lifted this morning for what it's worth.
I don't think they are common. This was the first to affect the whole county. We had outages during the big fires which is to be expected. Otherwise, just small ones when lightening or a car hits a pole and other accidents.
Were any of you around for the rolling blackouts in Cali during the energy deregulation fiasco...which eventually lead to the Enron fiasco?
Brownouts, mostly, actually. They were a nuisance but they didn't tend to be that widespread at one time.
