The vice principal at dh's school ALWAYS writes ON today or ON tomorrow instead of just today or tomorrow. Example: "We will be testing on tomorrow." "We will be having an assembly on today." Does anybody else think this sounds stupid? It drives me crazy!!
Not personally but it just seems weird to see/hear it. And I think there was a thread awhile back on this.
I would have no idea why a person does this, but I wouldn't let it irk me. Things like these are just peoples' strange quirks.
I don't think I've heard "we will test on tomorrow." But I do think I have heard "on tomorrow, we will test."
It irks me because this entire school system (DC) is run by idiots. Most of the administration at both my school and his school mispronounce so many things, it's embarassing!! I don't lose sleep over it though. 8 more days and we're gone!!
We had a secretary that said that on the announcements ALL the time. It drove me CRAZY!! But she got fired last year! So now I'm free....
I work a little north of DC, and my principal says it as well. This has happened at both of the schools where I have worked. It drives most of us crazy, but we have just learned to deal with it and laugh it off. Another word she gets wrong is tortilla. She always pronounces the ll's like in the word "wall".
I really think its cultural. My principal and secretary say that! I just had this conversation with my mom!
I can't stand it when people mispronounce tortilla. It's typically those that aren't from the south that have trouble with the word. :haha:
Oh I know! Or how about chimichanga with a long a on the "chang", salsa "pronounced" like "salza", or jalapeno pronounced jalapeeno?
Oh yeah, those get me too! Bobby Flay from Food Network annoys the heck out of me with how he pronounces chipolte. He's a self-proclaimed southwestern cuisine chef, but he can't even pronounce the regional ingredients correctly!
Regional I'm thinking it's a regional thing. I'm originally from NY but now live in NC, and that's all I hear, "on today" or "on tomorrow."
My principal pronounces "again" with the long a sound in the middle. That drives me nuts! And there are several people here who say "on tomorrow", but not "on" today, that REALLY makes no sense.
